$79 is a very good price for a quality tool like the L2. But for garden-variety plugins such as limiters, compressors, equalizers and reverbs there are just too many great alternatives out there to justify limiting yourself to Waves products. Toneboosters' Barricade, for example, is comparable to the L2 for 20 bucks and the only feature lacking is the draconian copy protection.

OH F*CK ME! SAY IT AIN'T SO...

I just opened an old project that had an instance of Waves' Doubler in it, and got the same damn message as before, when I started this thread:

The "Rescan Licenses" button does nothing, then SONAR crashes on exit. Ran the Waves License Center, but this time there is no option to transfer licenses from the "License Cloud". If I click "View All Licenses" it does list my licenses, but I cannot select them to do anything. How can it know the licenses exist while simultaneously denying that they do?

I have a pretty high tolerance for software hassles, but this crosses the threshold. With any other vendor, I'd contact them for advice, but that option is not available to me without buying into their upgrade plan.

I am now not only DONE with Waves for good, but I will also make it my mission to spread the word at every opportunity. Marketing research shows that unhappy customers will tell 20 times as many people about their bad experience than a happy customer. Any Waves Streetwalkers here I can complain to?

I especially LOVE the spinning "W" while Waves evidently looks for the iLok. (I know I'm repeating myself)
What's that you say, "the iLok"?
Yeah, loved Waves so much I never downloaded v9!
Now I can't, unless as Dave says, "BUY" into WUP.
The up side, I wasn't tortured again by the "Cloud".
Ah but alas, FabFilter updates are FREE!
On sale now, PM Dave for savings...

Well, I got the licenses back again via the "recover" option, despite their warning that you can only do this once per year. Whew.

I'm still pretty sure there are no more Waves purchases in my future.

Never say never. You never know when they might release that Universal Gooderizer plugin we'll always heard about, and if that happens you wouldn't want to be the only one who didn't have it.

'Two Knobs' series is probably in production as we type.

They would have to have 'Two Knobs' and a nice 'A$$' before I would spend any more of my money on them...

Dave is fast becoming the anti-Waves Apostle, but its easy to see how upsetting the entire process can be, especially with repeated episodes. These are the kind of experiences that raise the blood pressure and dampen the creative process. To be sure, there are a multitude of alternatives for many of the Waves plugins. Perhaps Waves will one day lower the iron curtain of security if they perceive that they are missing out on a lot of potential customers, and annoying the customers that they already have.

I must say I'm pretty much off the idea of buying any Waves plugins after reading this thread.
