The 32 bit and 64 bit are used for processor. These are size of data buses which are used to pass data form one place to another place. The size of this data bus is more then they pass data with speedily. The computer which having 64 bit processor it was known as super computer. Generally all are using 32 bit processor with having higher RAM memory.

Speaking of Ram.....
I'm also thinking of going to 64bit, but I have only 4GB's of Ram (limits of XP) in my machine. Can I install more Ram......possibly 8GB's(I have four slots) since my processor is 64 bit?

If the motherboard will handle it yes.

If those 4 slots are already filled with 1 gig sticks, you'll have to toss them and buy new ones. Consider upgrading the whole motherboard, which would net a zippier CPU in the process. If you don't use big sample libraries, a faster CPU will give more bang for the buck. I'm also on a dual-core, and my CPU runs out of steam far more often than RAM is exhausted.

Always go with 64bit, Everything runs much better, not only that but it would utilize more ram if you did edning up needing it, which you will in the future.
