Hi guys,

I hope you can help me as I'm pulling my hair out here. I've been using Music Creator 5 and 6 for a couple of years now. Previously I have been using a Lexicon Alpha to record audio tracks. It only has 2 inputs and I have been using it either to record one track in stereo or 2 tracks simultaneously in mono.

However, I have just replaced my interface with a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 as I wanted more inputs.

I tried the free version of Ableton that came with the interface and I'm able to record multiple audio tracks from different channels simultaneously. But I can't seem to figure out how to do it with Music Creator.

I have my vocal pedal plugged in to inputs 3 and 4 and my keyboard in to 5 and 6.

I can only seem to find a way of selecting one or the other. I know that I could go the mono route but what's the point in having an interface with multiple inputs if you're going to record mono anyway?

Please tell me there is a way of selecting multiple channels?

Thanks,

Emma

Welcome to the Forum, Emma.
Unfortunately, Music Creator can only record 2 inputs at a time no matter how many inputs your interface is capable of.
You'll have to upgrade to the new X1 line of Cakewalk software in order to use more than 2 inputs or the older Home Studio 7 if you can find it in a store somewhere (it's no longer available from the Cakewalk store).

I did a crossgrade to X1 essentials and saved a fair amount by doing it that way.

Checking  the store and it looks like there are still cross grade/up grade options still available

Wow that is pretty lousy!

Thanks for your help.

It's beginner's recording software and it's probably assumed that beginners would be using a stock computer sound card, which are almost always stereo-only.
So, your vocal pedal has stereo effects that you want to record? Are you using MC to rehearse a live show?
You could record the keyboard and vocal seperately.

Even though I now have X1, I still record one track/one channel at a time.

$50 software is lousy because it won't record more than 2 channels at a time?

and you have to upgrade to X1 Essentials for $79 to get more than 2 inputs simultaneously.  maybe you should look at other DAW software and see what their value is?

........

Wow that is pretty lousy!

As in  "oh well" ?  maybe....  You can do a whole lot with 2 inputs and some nice synths and imagination. Or a small mixer to input 8 mics on a drum kit.

Seriously............. 99% of my music is done with ONE input.

The cross grade to X1 and an interface that gives you the appropriate number of inputs you require would be the ticket.
