Having always built my own DAWs in the past and never having any major issues I didn't give it a second thought when my old Q9550 based system needed replacing.

So just about 12 months ago I built my new machine with an Asus Z87-K, I7 4770k and 16 Gb Kingston HyperX Genesis.

Long story short, I've spent the last 11 months toubleshooting problems! Some major, some niggles but I've not been entirely happy with the system like I was with every previous system I built.

Then a couple of weeks ago I couldn't get it to post so as part of the diagnostic procedure I took out two of the sticks of memory and it booted fine!

I thought sod it, I'll get the best memory I can afford instead of scrimping this time.

Put 32Gb G-Skill Trident X 2400 in it and it's soaring like an eagle.

All the niggles that I almost hadn't noticed anymore because I was so used to them are gone and I can perhaps get down to being a bit more productive.

Lesson learned. Haswell needs decent, fast memory!!

Not only memory, but all parts concerned should be of good quality. That "should" give you less troubleshooting issues.

You know, I found the same thing - my system got snappier and Sonar loaded quicker after I replaced my ADATA memory with G-Skill.  The only reason I could think of was that I went from 12G to 16G but I think it may have been related to G-Skill being better memory.

You might better say that fully compatible, error-free memory makes all the difference. Paying top dollar for the highest rated memory does not guarantee either. Many less expensive memory modules perform flawlessly, and platinum rated modules that do not exactly fit the motherboard or that have been struck by cosmic rays or fail under use since the factory test may be disappointing.
