Thanks for that post....I believe you hit the nail on the head...I would like the Bakers to chime in as to why it's happening on their end

I agree Gaffpro...

I'm curious as to why, when you open a project created in X1 that is isn't automatically "OK".
As I said, I just tried it out of curiosity because I know I had been using my Waves Plugins
perfectly fine in X2.  And my X1 projects that had Waves plugins also would playback just fine.
I never thought to even "insert" anything into X1 projects because they were already complete.
It wasn't until I inserted Vocal Rider into the effects bin to "check it out" that X2 "crashed and burned".

So I decided to save it under a new name, just to preserve the original, close it out, and re-open it, and low and behold...
ALL ISSUES WITH VR went away.

I find that kind of odd, so there must be some "translation" going on bringing in a project created in
X1, that doesn't play well with Waves plugins until it has been "ported over" to X2, and then all is well.

...Does it cost money to work with a Waves tech over the phone or is that even possible?... @rtucker55...You get one year of tech support with Waves products, then if you do the upgrade plan after that, you get another year for the plugins you upgrade, or all if you upgrade them all. It doesn't cost anything during the year, but the call may be long distance, as in my case. There are no 1-800 toll free numbers - at least not when I called for the V9 64-Bit installation questions earlier this summer [2012].

@jimusic,

Thank you so much for that info. I will be talking with them soon as my installation is still hit-or-miss.

Works most of the time but sometimes crashes. I really don't think I should need to uninstall, remove folders left behind, and reinstall every time I add a new waves plug...

In my case it does not matter if it was a project created in X1 or a new project with just one audio track created in X2.

This happens on two separate machines both with separate licenses. I really think there was something left behind in the registry from when I was trying to use a usb key on both machines. I'll bet their tech support can get me straightened right up.

Again, the best bet is to let the tech support person do a remote look through on your computer

I worked with a tech today for over an hour on 2 separate remote connections and the phone, Still not fixed.

He was able to get it working intermittently but was in a hurry and left me with a "Try this for awhile and if you still have problems contact me via email"  All he really did was turn off Windows UAC, update my video drivers, and pull the waveshell file from the cakewalk vst folder and put it in another folder? Actually, I don't see that we really did anything but turn off UAC and I don't really want UAC turned off... It doesn't work any better or worse than it did before I called him.

I emailed back that Waves plugs are still crashing Sonar and they requested I send them screenshots of the crash error msg., the Sonar minidump files, system info report, Sonar build #, etc. The tech is going to consult with the QA team.

So now I have a few hundred dollars in some plugs I can't currently use and no idea when I will get to use them. But I got them on SALE, and it's WAVES, so I still got a really good deal.

Unfortunately, Waves is a one for two type plug for me. I buy one plug but need to buy two licenses... I'm sure I would be more happy if it was working but since it isn't, I needed to vent.

Sorry for the rant.

Just curious if anyone else has to turn off UAC in order for Waves plugs to work.

Kind regards,
Rick

Rick, geez what a mess. Hope you get it fixed.

I have Waves Gold, Aphex Vocal Exciter (?) and Maserati. I've always run with UAC turned off. Always installed using "Run as Adimistrator".

I've had no major issues.

Best of luck with this.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the data point on running with UAC off. I do always run as administrator but I've always felt that UAC was a last ditch safety net.

Glad to hear you've had no issues and Thanks for the well wishes.

Kind regards,
Rick
