Spacey forgive and old guy who has memory issues,,

didnt you have some PC problems in the last couple of months or so ? I thought you got it resolved, is this the same PC?

The computer I use for recording is 64 bit Win 7 and under warranty. I also had one for internet along side it...and it's the one that
gave me problems and I yanked the hard drives and trashed it. it was 32 bit and was used for recording.

The 64 bit is now the one giving me trouble that I was going to trash this morning.

I've also had two other computers that were giving us problems. One of them was a very expensive Alienware laptop that was a lemon. I believe it is the one that may be remembered by you and Mike. I remember posting about us buying a $5,000.00 piece of junk. I can't count how many times it was shipped to them...and I probably posted about it...they finally replaced it and is what I'm typing on now. It is a friggin monster...a friend that knows computers told me it was Alienwares high end 18" gaming laptop. It has two video cards and four hard drives...sheesh, like we need that. Ya'll probably remember that the original was 3d...the replacement is not so we wound up with 3d NVidia glasses of no use and a gaming computer with no games. Sounds perfectly like the computer world to me. Man the people that built that thing couldn't fix it.
My wife claims it...I know why too.

Maybe some can imagine that me dealing with four and five computers and all of them being nothing but time consuming pieces of expensive headaches why I reached a point of throwing them away...some may not.

I informed my wife that I was done a long time ago. I'm not spending anymore of my time dealing with their issues. If she is not around when they bite it I will put them in the trash. I will not let these pieces of junk aggravate me. And I will not be spending another minute of my time trying to follow troubleshooting instructions given by somebody on the other side of the world that I can't understand. What kind of crap is that anyway?...you pay high dollar for warranty to have the thing repaired and wind up spending hours on the phone with some yahoo reading you
instructions...not me. To hell with that. Had my fill a long time ago.

I didn't get into recording to be a computer repair tech or a software tester and if that is what "normal" is- then it is what I will not be part of.
I tried to send bug reports...didn't work. Tried talking with Cakes techs only to get instructions to send files that weren't there. I've done my time
and have declared my freedom. Don't care what the issues are, don't want to hear about them and sure not going to be dealing with them.

My wife has made it home and the only thing that matters is that she understands and she does. She understands it's very simple....I will not hesitate to chunk one out if she is not here to save it. She knew that when she wanted me to pick out another one and keep trying...knowing that
it may very well wind up in the trash. At least there will be no problem between us about it and that is the only thing that matters to me. (she's laughing now because I read this to her...and said, "well it's true".)

When my wife allowed the delivery guys to leave a brand new, just delivered, yet non operable dishwasher installed in our kitchen, because she didn't have the chutzpah to complain until after the truck left, the very fist thought that swept through my head was

"As soon as she leaves on Monday I am going to drag that piece of **** out to the road and hope that someone shoots it."

But I gathered my wits and we star99'd the delivery guys and asked them to come back and get it.

That was a close one... I was pretty frustrated.

The next one that was delivered had been dropped and crushed BEFORE it was put in it's cardboard shipping box. That one only made it to the driveway before we sent it back.

We finally got one that works... and it actually works real good.

Here's hoping you have a better Monday!!!

best regards,
mike

The Maillard Reaction

We have a long standing relationship with a family owned store... but we were replacing a dishwasher that they had sold us that died a day or two after warranty expired and it would cost more to fix than replace.

It undermined my enthusiasm for maintaining a relationship with local owned service based business. :-(

So, my wife tried Lowes.

They left the one that never worked... but to their credit they gave us a quick and full refund and were totally cool about everything.

So, I went back to the family business and we ignored the fact that they charge a little more.

Their guy brought the one that ended up being crushed and he was nice about arranging a subsequent attempt.

They finally got a good one and brought it out and installed it.

My wife comes over and gets me at the studio and says "before they leave I want you to come over and sign off on the job".

I didn't even make it in to the house when I started asking why it looked like it was installed all crooked and out of level and not even close to flush with our cabinets. People say I have an eye for the stuff.

The guy shrugs. My wife looks at me perplexed.

All I could think of was "As soon as she leaves on Monday I am going to drag that piece of **** out to the road and hope that someone shoots it."  for a second time in a week.

Then they went back in and fixed it... not perfect mind you, but the best they could muster.

Oh well.

At least it works real good.

I'd like to support the locals and families... but someone has got to bring something to the table.

I hate the fact that shopping is a proxy for war fare. I don't like winning and I don't like losing. I just wanna hold hands and sing. :-)

That's my story.

all the best,
mike
