I was about to jump on the FG-X and read that it needed i-lok.
I don't own anything with i-lok, is it really the anti-christ?

I've always been against it, and quite vocal about it. Then I got my first iLok w/ Pro Tools, so I thought I might as well enjoy it.

Short of a very unintrusive copy protection method like Cakewalk's serial number, it can be less of a hassle than other method of authorizations.

Unless your iLok breaks or is stolen.

Plug-ins it allows me to run that I wouldn't want to be w/o anymore - Slate's, McDSP, Lexicon Reverb.

And in case you missed it in that other thread - Sweetwater has Slate's Trigger going for $149 for Platinum and $49 for EX.

cheers Rain - do you think that now Waves has moved away from iLok, others will start drifting?

I say the best option is to continue voicing our concerns to them every opportunity we get.

Prior to them going iLok-less, I've made sure to advise Waves via their Facebook page that I was passing on their deals and buying more expensive alternatives just because I didn't want to put up w/ iLok.

FG-X iLok?  Correct!  I paid $250 ... and my dongle is ready self-destruct ...

To be honest, I wish either Slate goes the way of Waves or Waves reverts back to the iLok to free up a usb port because now I have to have two dongles if you count the flashdrive my Waves plugs are on.
