Yes, there seems to be something kooky with the stereo field analyzer in Sonar. It has my wav hard panned to the left also.

The weird part: after finding this oput the other day I tried in Project5 v2 and when placed as an insert a track it would again have the left panned behaviour and would not change to reflect panning. But when used on the 2bus it reacted as expected. Something weird going on here- maybe just in Sonar, I will try it on mny other DAWs tomorrow but I have to go out drinking now :)

It's a hell of a lot more helpful than a normal specturm anaysis ala VoxengoSpan though- I'm actually damn inpressed.

edit: after quick test- In Sonar: doesn't work in track or bus, Nuendo: works inbus but not in track, Studio One: bus but not track, P5v2: bus but not track . No audio crackles though. win8 64bit, 16gig

Thanks backwoods,

At least now I have another data point that supports my supposition that Isotope did release a rat turd version vs. the advanced version of Insight.

They'll get it worked out soon and we'll all be happy.

Kind regards,
Rick

Could you elaborate? I'm interested in this product, but I hardly ever look at phase correlation meters or vectorscopes except as diagnostic aids when there's something wonky going on. SPAN is pretty much all I need. Maybe I'm missing out on something cool?

One metering tool that I do use, and wish I had as a separate plugin, is the "critical band" view of Ozone's spectral display module. Presumably Insight would provide that, alleviating the need to insert Ozone just for the metering.

But to me, the most intriguing tool Insight offers is the loudness history feature. I use Adobe Audition for that now, and sometimes automate the mastering limiter's threshold to tweak overly-loud or too-quiet passages after examining the waveform and selecting individual sections for analysis in Audition. Being able to write automation based on loudness history would be a great convenience.

At the end of the day, however, I'll need to see some pretty compelling arguments before spending $400 on metering!

Hi bitflipper you were the guy who turned me onto Ozone in the first place.

Yes, Insight has the critical bands as an option under "Music Production" but it doesn't have the EQ overlaying. The thing about paying the $400 (359 at audiodeluxe) is that you upgrade to Ozone Advanced and Insight is now included in Advanced as well as "Meter Bridge". So the Ozone devices can be loaded independently now.

The loudness history is useful as are the various loudness metering options. Although it looks like a gimmicky thing the crawling/waterfall spectogram is of course just a spectogram history and I think it is useful too.  Using meter bridge each tracks spectogram info can be shown on the same crawl/waterfall which is handy. Of course- you may think it sucks big time also but I think they have the usual Izotope 10day demo - Ozone Advanced is 190megs, Insight (which you get for free with Advanced) is about 30megs.

I received an answer from Izotope support and they were not able to reproduce the crackling on a system such as mine but his guess is that it may be graphics card related in that it may be eating away some the CPU cycles. He suggested that I try to reduce the number of meters running concurrently to see it that helps.

His reply as to the stereo field hard panning left is as follows:

"In regards to the stereo vectorscope issue, this has to do with the way Sonar X2 is channelizing the plugin. To fix this issue, go to the Insight options page, and under the I/O tab, set both drop-down menus in here to 'SMPTE'. You may want to save this as a preset for use in future projects that use Insight."

This fixed my stereo vectorscope issue and it works fine now.

I tried his suggestion on the crackles and it works but intermittently. I think I just need to spend some more time with it and all will be well. As the complexity goes up so does the learning curve...

@Bit - Don't know if you have tried the demo for Ozone 5 advanced but the fact that you can insert individual modules vs. the channel strip approach really is the berries and AudioDeluxe has some great upgrade prices for folks that already own Ozone 1-4.

Kind regards,
Rick

Thanks rtucker- that fixed it!

Yeah, I was thinking about your crackles and was thinking maybe your graphics card drivers might need updating. I hope you get it figured out- I am actually feeling a bit inspired by this plugin.

By putting a 'meter tap' at the bottom of selected pro channel strips you can really see what the spectrum crawl is composed of and see eq/compression/sidechaining factoring themselves in real time. I pulled in an old drum session and had a good look with each mic on a different meter tap- very fascinating indeed. Sometime the crawl seems to throw in the different colors a bit late (when browsing viewing angles) but going back to 2d and then to 3d again fixes that- I expect they'll patch it.

X2 is made to run it too. Just throw insight into the dock on the bottom and use "D" to open/close it. It really ties a project togetehr I am finding as it makes one appreciate the "overall" result of elements combining.

In short: love it.

No, I never demoed Advanced. Given that the price would probably preclude ever owning it, I prefer not to know what I'm missing. It just feeds the G.A.S.

I did demo O5 when it came out, but decided that the new intelligent release algorithm wasn't a compelling reason to justify the upgrade. Plus, I'm enjoying the greater tweakability of Pro-L these days and use it instead of Ozone about 50% of the time.

Too bad the meters aren't offered a la carte.

They are if you buy Insight but it costs just as much as upgrading to O5 advanced and getting Insight free...

I still can't believe they are asking that Chunk of change for the metering system. Surely the price will come down after the new wears off.

I am in the same boat enjoying the Fab Filter stuff but when I saw that I could get insight with O5 advanced, well, the G.A.S got the best of me. Honestly, I would have never upgraded to the regular O5 without the separate modules.

Great meter functionallity but I’m really surpriced that iZotope can't build and programed the GUI correctly?

No GPU or CUDA support at all? No use of the GPU on the graphic card? They use only the CPU on the whole GUI-interface? This plugin GUI really HOG the CPU, 10-30%. Even worse if you rezize it so you can see it on 1920X 1080 screen.

Not very helpful at all. I though iZotope Advance meters was bad coded and a CPU-hog but Insight is even worse then that?
The plugins use Windows XP behaviour. What they need to do is to direct all GUI-interface to use the GPU on the graphic card instead.  Then this product would be 10 of 10. As for now, I wouldn’t buy it.

Just curious if anyone else is having any problems with this new meter?

I've installed the Ozone 5 Adv update that contains the Insight meter module. I am having troubles using the Insight meter module in any Sonar X2 projects, new or old.

I only have a single instance of it on a master buss and keep getting audio crackles no matter how large or small the project. CPU usage appears normal.  Increasing buffer size makes little to no difference.

Also the stereo analyser is way off, it’s telling me that my projects are panned hard left when the sound is evenly distributed across the stereo image. This is only happening using the the Insight meter module that came with Ozone 5 Advanced.

The Ozone 5 meter, as well as my other metering systems, show the stereo image is well balanced and I have no crackling issues using multiple instances of Ozone 5 and/or Alloy 2.

I contacted Izotope support a couple days ago but have not heard back from them yet. Sent another email today. Again just curious if it is only me or something I'm doing wrong.

Kind regards,
Rick

No crackle here but stereo scope doesn't work in Insight. Total Dead! I use the demo.
