I've always used Waves L1 Limiter from NPP 4 at the end of my mix chain, with it's dithering on, but it no longer works with x64. Now I'm faced with finding other solutions. Here's what I'm considering, and I'd appreciate any recommendations or feedback:

  1. Upgrade my NPP4 to the latest version, v9, and get three new plugs with the pack, IR-L, doubler and Rennaissance AXX: $60.
  2. Purchase SONAR's Concrete Limiter, which is on sale now, half off: $39.
  3. Purchase Toontracks EZ Mix and the Mastering add-on, and use what limiter is included in that package, plus benefit from EZ Mix features. Total: about $150-$160 (I think).
  4. Open to other suggestions.

Thanks.

IK Multimedia T-Racks is worth adding to any shortlist. The deluxe goes for 159.99 Euros and the Standard for 59.99 Euros. IK are continously haveing sales and promotions so you could get it a lot cheaper.

Try Limiter No.6 by Vladg sound. It's free so if you don't like it, no harm done. Toneboosters Barricade is good. It has a free download and it's only twenty something dollars to be able to save settings. I've tried a ton of them, and Limiter No.6 is my main one right now. I plan to buy Concrete limiter so I can have it in the pro channel...for $39, why not?

Free L1 clone (64 bit) here: http://yohng.com/software/w1limit.html

That being said, I never do mastering or use limiters, so I can't tell you how close it is to the real L1, but it may be worth trying. :)

Hey, Rain, I tried that L1 clone before, and it locked up Sonar. My might give it another try. But thanks for all the suggestions above. I'll look into them.

The Maillard Reaction

I compared PSP Xenon to Voxengo's Elephant in detail last month.

Either of those seem to work very well and I like them better than the choices Waves offers.

+1 to T-racks Deluxe 3.5, especially at a sale price, very useful with a few nice limiter options along with other stuff. i use much of that suite often. That said, i normally use Elephant to bring a mix up to level.

+1 on Elephant.  Not because it is better than Concrete etc., but I've been using it for years, it sounds good and I know where to reach w/ my mouse.  Familiarity breeds competence and quickness.  I'm sure any of the above would work.

I use T-Racks and Concrete Limiter.  I love them both.  I've heard great things about Elephant, but I've never pulled the trigger on it.
