Ok at one time I blasted the new iOS revolution. But then these are gadgets and gizmos and I like to tinker so here I am now with Midibridge , Sampletank , Garageband , Audiobus  and iRig MIDI. First it was the iphone. Now I have an ipad 4th generation. As soon as I get the lightning to 30 pin adapter my ipad will be a miniature DAW.

Lots of cool things in the works...more use of bluetooth as a means to  connect midi . WiFi not required. Audiobus is the glue that holds different apps together. Simliar to rewire and VST technology in larger systems. Can't wait to try the guitar apps eventually. We are finally seeing the means to fully use the platform with human input devices and apps that communicate with one another. Still can't see it replace my big DAW, but I can't put my big DAW under my arm and take it almost anywhere either.

You're a little ahead of me, but I'm on the bandwagon as well!

I got a 4th gen 64G ipad for my 50th birthday.  I don't have an iphone, tho, actually my phone's not even "smart" - so I just started into the world of istuff.  I've been looking at getting that iRig MIDI like you have in the pic, but yes, I would also need a lightening to 30pin adapter for it, which makes it much more expensive.

I've thought about using it to control my patch changes on my keyboards for live play.

Wow beagle..nice. You could make a lot of CH tunes with that much memory! Congratulations on your birthday!

One of the things that initially turned me off to the irevolution was lack of good input devices and lack of inter app communication. Both problems have been solved with Audiobus and irig . Now you can get a good audio interface for it . The capabilities are way more than I had anticipated. One other advantage to Mac users is the ability to use bluetooth communication between units...no wires.

I think you're going to enjoy the new gift.

what's audiobus?  is that like a soundcard?

I bought an Android based off brand tablet about a year ago and I just really didn't like it.  so I asked for the 64G iPad for the big FIVE-OH!  I've had it for about a week now.

I'm already using it instead of chordsheets for playing live - I use "forscore" to import pdf files and create set lists and I love that you can make notes on it (I put patch info on them) and that it's easy to switch between songs.

Audiobus is located in the app store. It costs 4.99 but is well worth the money if you want to record Sampletank into Garageband or any other similar thing.

I use songselect. I think I can get .pdfs from them. I'll look into this. Thanks Beagle. Sheet music can be a chore sometimes.

the WL and the pianist both also have ipads (although older ones not nearly as cool as mine! :) )and they both use forscore as well, so we can share songs easily.

I'll check into audiobus - but I think my main focus at this point is going the other direction!  using it for live and not necessarily for recording.  but that may come later.

Hmm...  So we missed a birthday, ya?  Well, hope you had fun 'cause, at your age, it's unlikely you'll remember it.  It seems like just a little while ago that you were young like the rest of us and now you're OVER THE HILL!

(At least that's my stance until Alex and I join you in a few months - hehe...)

Wow, and here I was going to bring more becan to the party (but was forced to eat it myself instead - oh well).

Happy belated birthday anyway!
