Has Slate mentioned it was Mac only? I wouldn't be surprised if a Windows version was developed in the future.

That being said, I would think that this thing was conceived first and foremost w/ major league studio in mind - so Pro Tools and Mac first and foremost - and that the price tag will be prohibitive, anyway.

What I really love about this thing, is just how useful this is, as opposed to a $200 midi controller.

Both of those will be way to expensive for me!

1 word .. tactile

wouldn't buy into it.. REAL sliders etc.
reminded me of a jukebox

and whoever did the ergonomics.. yay.. neck ache...

it's an over engineered solution for a problem that doesn't exist

As someone who battles tendonitis, that's the first thing that crossed my mind.
I certainly wouldn't want to work 8-12 hours a day... holding my arms up in the air (to make adjustments).
That's an ergonomic nightmare.  If you didn't already have RSI (tendonitis, carpal-tunnel), you'd develop it.

It's basically a virtual control surface... with built in monitoring
Unique approach... but far too cost prohibitive for the average DAW user.
Personally, I'd rather have tactile controls (faders/knobs) when trying to make fine adjustments.

FYI guys, Slate is also working on a scaled down version for home users. Should be smaller, may be a few less features, and more affordable for the "home guys".

You know this seems to me to be a case of "I've got something funky , shiny and very expensive so I must be more professional than you"! Well perhaps its always been a bit like that with kit snobbery.

You can just see some fashionable producer using a few of these on the next Lady Ga Ga record - but personally I'd rather listen to Seasick Steve and his three stringed guitar..........

Seriously though, I agree with everything Fog and Jim said re the ergonomics and I would just add I wonder how long you would spend trying to get the thing to work consistently instead of actually making music?
