I finally lost an argument with myself and went out to my local GC and bought Nomad Factory's MAGMA multi FX VST.  This was mainly due to three factors:
 
1rst Guitar Center put it on sale for $149.
 
2nd I've been inundated with last minute projects from one of my biggest clients (i.e. I have actual geetus comin into my business account)
 
3rd I'm a weak willed sum****.  But you knew that.
 
Anywhooo as to ol MAGMA...I am not disappointed.  It is a real humdinger.  In fact I decided to use just MAGMA and my WAVES NLS for one of the songs I'm producing and I believe that an ol feller or gal could be very happy doing just that on a regular basis.  It really will cover most all bases (and short stop, the outfield, catcher and pitcher too...plus...it can hit!!)  But don't take my feeble word for it...check it out for yourself ifn ya like.  It really is a ton of bang for the buck.  Honest.
 

I Just checked out their website - you get 65 processors for that price? Is that right?
But it seems strange that they are still selling things like the Blue Tubes bundle for $399????
It makes you sort of think that in some way the magma Stuff MUST be inferior to the other bundles, otherwise how could they justify the extra cost. Intriguing!
You'll have to keep us posted on how good all the 65 different processors are - I'm sure it's going to take you a little while to try them all!!!!

Well...Nomad's stuff is almost always very good and these are "supposedly" all new processors (albeit, I assume, based on their existing tech).  All I can say now is that all the ones I have tried (about twenty) are great and YES you do get 65 individual plugs in this suite.  The plugin is basically 4 4space racks so you can have (although why you'd need this many is beyond me) 16 effects per instance of MAGMA.  And it is VERY LIGHT on CPU.  Amazingly so.  And it covers almost every need you have...compression, eq, verbs, chorus, phase, enhancers, etc...etc...  It really is quite the bargain.

i think the costing may have to do with how fierce the fx market is now and with others and their bundles.
