As I recall it, The Nuckromanser. But maybe it was The Higher Underground (both circa 1967). Truth be told, one of those two bands was not my first tho.

I was in a band before that but for the life of me I do not recall if we actually had a name.

We played at a youth correctional facility and a frat party in Westwood, CA. I had been playing guitar for about 4 weeks then (circa 1966). I only knew half the songs. We were a three piece band (two guitars and drums, no bass). The other guitar player was the singer (cuz he had a mic that he could plug into his Silvertone Amp's second channel). He taught me everything I knew to that point (E, A, D, G, C and F chords. What else did you need back then?). I think we got $10 each for each gig.

I'll bet you had spots too...

There's no way I'm entering into this cringe-fest...I'm just gonna stand back and laugh at y'all.

I don't think we even got to the point where we named it. We just played until the drummer (who had just broken up with his girl) could no longer make through a whole tune without crying, then we disbanded. Sheesh, what a bunch of weenies we were!

But I did a tune with a bass player and drum machine after that and we called ourselves Bent Strayt. Geez, what a bunch of weenies we were!

The first one that actually played for cash was Pyramid. I played in jr high folk bands, stage bands, student symphony, all state and things a bunch before that.

My latest venture is Big Oil.
