Our first band never had a name - just as well probably

My first ever paying gig was with a band called Scavenger - we used to write our own heavy metal stuff, and do a load of covers - Freebird, Smoke On The Water, I Don't Know (Ozzy), that sort of thing.

We got payed in beer at a Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) in a field near Chipping Sodbury. It rained torrentially throughout the night. At one point, I went to make an adjustment to my amp and noticed rain water coming through the roof of the tent and dripping onto my stack

It's surprising so many of us are still alive.

"Chimaera". 1972.

Though we didn't have a hope in hell of playing anything progressive as we only knew 2 chords.*

*Later on we had another guitarist join who knew a different two chords and we went from strength to strength.

I think we were going to call ourselves Blue Flint of all things, in a cheap ripoff of Pink Floyd I guess, but it never really got off the ground. My toes still curl up when I think about that.

OTOH, I did have a part in the name of a reasonably well known *album* later on, by the Dutch late 80's band Urban Dance Squad. 'Mental Floss' (make suggestive gesture as if flossing between the ears) was my private joke with DNA (Arjen), their scratcher. The album was named Mental Floss for the Globe, and became pretty huge at the time.
