Ah, Mike, that essential of civilized life - toilet paper.  It is best to learn what poison ivy looks like in the post apocalyptic world ;-)

I don't know how many rodents there are in the US.  But if you shoot them w/ an AK you ain't gonna have much meat left.

Tony, I know an EMP  and the delivery systems are based on 1940's technology but it is still a rather complex affair.  It takes a State to do it, and states by their very nature are targets.  If you are in the leadership of a country, you probably don't want to lose that power, privilege and life.  A terrorist might not mind to blow his self up, but you, as a leader in a small clique of states, probably don't.  Not to say an emp attack couldn't happen (or nuke, or chemical attack), but the survival instinct is very strong, especially if, as they say in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you are the only one not covered in sh...

My thinking exactly.

I know one prepper who has purchased 12 different hunting rifles in the past year... after a lifetime of getting by with only 2.

I keep asking him... "which one are you going to carry with you when you head into the back country on foot?"

Sorry George.

I'll return to my normal sensible, salubrious self immediately.

Sanitation would be a big deal. Assuming no power.... it isn't long before infrastructure such as water purification and waste disposal stops working.

I've seen estimates that with an extended power outage in the order of 12 to 18 months, 80% or greater would sucumb to disease or death by some other means.

As far as eating rat and other vermin, which will likely become plentiful, a nice Crossman 760 series BB gun will suffice and doesn't make much noise either. Just be sure to cook those suckers good.... you don't want to get parasites without having a good medical service nearby.

If one isn't prepared to stay inside and protect the fort it's going to be ugly.
Prescriptions are going to be hard to get filled but a thirty day supply may be
more than enough one way or the other.

Without knowing what I'd do, I know a few things I wouldn't do. Running around outside with a gun is one. I saw Deliverance and times didn't seem so bad then. NO WAY would I be out in the woods trying to find food and I am an experienced hunter.

I can see a form of zombie feast coming up...

Mike,

your well-armed friend obviously is hoping to domesticate a zombie or two for use as pack animals.  One for the guns, one for ammo and the last for toliet paper.  Everything a civilized man needs.

I plan on being one of the early casualties.  I'm tired and I just don't feel up to surviving the collapse of civilization.  Hording food, fighting off gangs, hiding from troops, escaping from zombies, and sneaking out of the death camps is a lot of work.

Let's face it.  Now that we're not wasting time on inventions, manufacturing, or innovation of any kind, we really only have one thing of value we can offer the world: our Entertainment Industry.  It seems to me that we have borrowed money from the mob and we can't pay it back.  The only think keeping the goons from breaking kneecaps is the fact that we amuse the Don.  Given the fact that a very large percentage of the world wants us dead more than they want their next breath,  we'd better be very amusing.

I don't like the way that Vinnie is looking at me right now.  I should turn off America's Got Talent.  It doesn't appear to be helping us.

When you said "Entertainment Industry", I thought you meant Hollywood......

But then again, Beyonce' and Jay-Z are the entertainment goons that amuse the Don.
