Does anybody own a Xilx Lab synth? What synth? Have you owned it for a year +? How is Customer support?

Cheers

I've got the synthi - lite, and it works well.  Never had to use customer support in the last couple of years.

Why?  You planning on breaking their product ;-)

I don't know too much about em..  lol..  but I follow CM on Facebook, and their latest synth Oxium got a write up..  Its really cool...

I plan on breaking it :p

lol..  / joking..

I just wanted to see if there were some users on this forum.  Cause it seems like a new company..

Nothing but glowing reviews on kvr for Oxium. So many that there was a backlash resulting in several "enough about Oxium, already!" threads.

They do have a demo.

I don't read Kvr..  "A mean spirited group of people, who wish to stroke each others toenails; and ban all others who don't subscribe to their narrow world views of sanctimonious selfishness."

Incidentally, I've got the Oxium Demo installed right now..  but um..  So its a real company then?   I asked on Gearslutz, and got no response.

I don't like buying plugins, and then you find out, "a company you don't know much about falls off the map."  Ah..  I don't know..  I'm jonesing for a new synth..  I tried the Retrologue, maybe I ought to go with that..  It is nearly half the price...

But this Oxium is way cool..   The filters sound better on the Retrologue..  Maybe I am wrong?  I guess Oxium is a bit more complex, it probably takes a while to learn a little...

hmm...

Did you buy Oxium then?  Do you like it?

I, too, am on a quest for a new synthesizer. Still looking, though. Tried (and liked), but did not buy Oxium.

Diva would have been my choice but my aged CPU isn't up to it.

I mostly agree with your assessment of kvr, btw.

I currently own the PolyKB II player and I owned the Xils 3 LE version in the past (I sold it as it didn't really click with me).  The PolyKB Player is nice for a little different flavor than  most of the synths  I own.

Here's a story about their support:  I had trouble installing the PolyKB player (due to inadequate instructions by the third party seller...no fault of Xils lab), so I emailed them.  Within 15 minutes ON A SATURDAY no less, I had an email from them with a complete answer that solved my install problem.  I thanked them for the quick support, and I even got a response to that saying they would contact the third party seller to tell them to update their install instructions.    Support doesn't get any better than that.
As I understand it, Xavier (the main guy at Xils lab) used to work for Arturia.  You'll notice that the preset menus are almost identical to those found in Arturia synths.  I think most agree that Xils lab synths sound better than the Arturia ones, however.

I've demo'd Diva and think its amazing. But.. As amazing as I think it is, it just isn't clicking with me. Its sound quality is awsome though.

I just tried Stein's Retrologue and Padshop Pro...... They are great!! I was just about to buy em, when I saw the Oxium Article on CM or Music Radar.. I was just, "reading the FB newsfeed, and found out about this new Oxium Synth..

Wow! Not because I think his synths and arturias are very simalar... "wow," because I think this Oxium is so different. I didn't notice at all. Now I am totally blown away.

Some of the other synths that I've recently demoed that impressed me, in no particular order:
SynthMaster
Twin2
Helix
Zebra
Tassman
OPX
A.C.E.

In case there are any on that list you haven't tried yet.

A lot of the synths you mentioned..  have the same problem as my synths...  "Age."

5 years is a long time in the software industry..  I feel like my synths, and plenty of those on your list, are showing age.  and when I play with Oxium...  I totally see, "the age my synths are showing."
