I have a question about the vocal effect in Hard, Better, Faster, Stronger.
really love the vocal effects in there. was that gate+autotune/pitch shifter?

I especially interested how they make the low pitched vocal so punch and BEEEEEEEFY!

anyone has idea about that, please share your knowledge :) much thanks

A good article that may provide some insight:

However, you'll notice that they specifically stay away from sharing any real specifics.

oh thanks R!Soc, I checked the link, nice interview, they spoke the concept of the making but as you said they don't really like to reveal the secret ingredients.
I really love the production of the Discovery, like the in the interview said, very carefully sculpted, like jewelery, you can hear the efforts they made in very details of the songs.

It just sounds like a vocorder to me. As they say in the article, they tend to use older equipment and resample samples, adding distortion effects and layering them into a new sound.

If you do not have it, I would suggest downloading Audacity (a very powerful free wave editor), the LADPSA plugins (VST) and the VST bridge and experiment with some of the vocorder filters and so on. Works in XP/Vista/Linux. (the vst filters can of course be used in any application that supports VST).

Cheers

This may be old news, but have y'all seen the "Daft Bodies" video on YouTube?
(slight warning... they show skin but it's tasteful and necessary)

Anyway I've tried to get that beefy low vocal effect before. Like foxy says I'm sure it's a vocoder. What I did was set the vocoder plugin to a low note and then double it very quietly up a perfect 5th to give it that beef. Play around with it some, I'm sure you'll get it!
