For individual files you can try doing the following - Process>audio>gain and then do a 0db gain change.  This should rebuild the waveform.

You don't want to do destructive gain techniques just to redraw a wave file. If you raise the gain to 0, you'll have no headroom for further processing and you may raise your noise floor unnecessarily.
While your answer is the correct one for sure, I think what he meant by that was not raising the gain to 0db, but applying a 0db gain CHANGE, which would have a null effect. But it would also mean re-processing the audio which is also undesirable.

Now that you put it like that, I see what he was saying

Hey guys,

I keep losing my waveform pictures  in SP 8.5.3.  I open a project, and only some of the waveforms are visible.  I know I can click a clip and recompute the waveform, but this is too frequent a problem for that solution.

This is a project with many clips and tracks (I keep all my takes).  I tried bumping up the picture cache limit to 1500 MB, and that didn't work, either.  Is there a limit to what limit you can set in the AUD.INI?

****e.  Now it refuses to recompute a picture for the most recent clip I'm working on.

I miss reader1! even though it was probably strikinglyhansom or some other creative regular.

You should try archiving uneeded tracks, that cleans up the mess.

Did you delete everything in your picture cache as has already been suggested above? Sonar will just recompute waveforms as needed.

Yes, I have archived all unneed tracks and deleted everything in the picture cache.  I just went through that whole process again, rebooted, and I still don't get all my pictures, and I still cannot recompute one of the clips.  Any other ideas?

Weird. I've never had that happen to me (knock on wood). Do you put tracks in folders and hide tracks you're not using?

Yes, I put archived tracks in folders, but not tracks I'm using.  Actually, I just reset the picture cache size to 500MB, which is where is was originally (is that the default?  I can't remember), and now I can recompute pictures again.  I think 8.5.3 on my system likes the cache set to that, or something . . .?  It just doesn't work as well when the cache size is bigger.  I wonder why that is?

Just thought I'd add that garrigus posted a link to his site under Automatically Empty the Cakewalk Picture Cache that you might want to take a look at. The article details how to create a .bat file that will delete all the image files in the picture cache when opened. I added the file extension WTR, but otherwise followed his instructions to the letter. I added the file to my startup and put a copy on my desktop. So every time my computer reboots/starts the picture cache is automatically emptied. I can also manually empty it by double clicking the .bat file on my desktop. Pretty nifty.
