TBH, I've never heard of the Stranglers, but they are up my alley.

Cool stuff Strummy. Thx.

No problem mate

Dave Greenfield is often accused of ripping off Doors stuff, but he's got a style and approach all of his own. Plus Jean-Jaques Burnel is one of the finest bassists I've heard.

Start your collection with these four, you'll be glad you did

Whamp... disqualified... early Pete Townshend experimenting with analog sequencing.

Actually, not quite.  To quote from Wikipedia: "the frenetic sequence - which resembles the clattering of a Roulette wheel - was played by Townshend on a Lowrey Berkshire Deluxe TBO-1 organ using its marimba repeat feature."

This jibes with my recollection - the parts were played real-time (multiple tracks?, I dunno...) by Pete.  For what it's worth, there's a factory patch on my Alesis Ion that nails this effect, I can dupe it perfectly in 2 tracks, but I'm not much of a keys player...

And anyway - wouldn't a synth still be a keyboard??

I'm going to sneak Baba O'reilly back in by way of Bruce Springsteen. The bridge to Jungleland is pretty much exactley the same as Baba.
