Well my 32 bit machine was no slouch.  A dual core hummer with 4 gigs ram (and the 3gig "switch" thrown).  Again, the "night and day" does NOT come from the machine being faster (although it is)...it comes from the extra RAM giving me more "headroom" to run RAM intensive apps WITHOUT having to freeze at all.  I do get better video performance with my new box...duh.  And, overall, the DAW seems to be "very marginally" faster and more facile.  But there is no question whatsoever that I can do things (many, many more things) on the 64bit DAW I couldn't on the 32 bit DAW.  In hindsight it's like my old 32bit DAW was struggling to keep up with my needs...and the new 64bit DAW just says, "is that all ya got...come on, son...bring it on".  Honest, ol pal.

Bub what are my system specs going to do for you?  In what way will this information convince you that 64 bits are better?

That's all pretty much in line with what I'm saying: If you have and need additional RAM for large projects, x64 is worthwhile. If not, you probably won't see much improvement from upgrading the O/S alone. I think you're giving insufficient credit to the difference in performance and capacity of the new hardware you're running, especially if that old "dual core" was not Core 2 architecture, and/or the Front Side Bus and RAM were running at 800MHz or less.

I apologize John. I shouldn't have said that. I'm not feeling well today and not in a very good mood and I was a dick.

I was genuinely interested in your system specs because I'm trying to see if the reason I'm not seeing much benefit running 64 bit is because of my specs. I just did a quick search on your CPU and it actually looks like our systems are pretty similar. You have more HDD's than I do though and a slightly slower video card. I have the 9500GT.

Do you ever see the tool bar turn gray? I was using an ATI card but it died so I put my 9500GT back in and ever since the tool bar turns gray and the only thing displayed is the time.

I had some glitching with X1a but not with X1b. The control bar would vanish if I had the event inspector visible. Not since X1b.

I also use a dual monitor setup.

Over all X1 has been more stable on my system then any other DAW I have. I can't remember the last time I had a crash. 

I do a lot of video and photo editing too.

BTW I just ordered a tablet PC.  I will let you all know more about it when it arrives. It ain't no ipad either. 10 inch screen. LOL

Bub, are you sure you removed any trace of the ATI drivers?

I have seen a lot of people having problems with conflicting reminants of the ATI drivers when installing a NVIDIA card. Altough this is mostly on the gamer sites, there have been mentions of game-slowdown, gliches and artifacts. Even sound distortion seem to occur in some cases (don't ask me how that's possible, but I think I saw this mentioned on the X3 forum - that is ... the game, not musical sofware  ). If it happens in games, it can also happen in other software that is depending on graphical parts of the interface..

I do not say this is the case in your system, but it may be worth to take a look at it. As I seem to remember there is a application that removes all traces of the ATI driver. I cannot remember the name at this moment - sorry...

That's actually a great idea. I did uninstall the ATI drivers, but who knows what's left over in the registry. I'll check that out.

I don't know if you have been watching my Pro Channel saga (LOL), but I was wondering if the problems I'm seeing with it aren't related to my video card somehow. I mean, if the entire tool bar can disappear, surely an on/off button could be activated/deactivated I would think.

That's actually a great idea. I did uninstall the ATI drivers, but who knows what's left over in the registry. I'll check that out

The drivers remain in the driver store even when they are uninstalled. They can be deleted from there. Microsoft advise caution when doing that though but that's them just covering their backs probably.

 Im using an E-mu 404 card 32 bit and sonar 7 pro/ed its being installed on windows 7 H/P 32 bit. My cpu is 4 gig of ram so, would there be any point in upgrading to 64 bit ?
