  • Assigning outputs in Kontakt 5

What am I doing wrong?! I've got Kontakt 5 inserted with a few instruments loaded. I then open up the 'Outputs' section, create some new channels. I then insert some audio tracks in Sonar, and assign their inputs to the corresponding outputs of the channels I've just created within Kontakt. Then back in the 'Outputs' section of Kontakt, I click on the output numbers at the bottom of the mixer to route them properly, and find the only way I can route a channel to outputs 3/4 is by routing it to an Aux? The only other thing available is all the 'Unassigned' channels, the lowest of which routes to plugin output 13/14. And then when I change the output of an instrument to one of the new channels whichI created within Kontakt, it still gets routed to outputs 1/2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I am actually having a similar problem to yours but I think I can help....

1st load Kontakt with all stereo outputs selected
2nd in the output section of Kontakt > Presets Batch Configutation > Batch Functions > Clear output section and create one individual channel for each intrument loaded.

That will now give you an individual output for each instrument in sonar, the input to each associated audio track in sonar will tell you where it is patched to in Kontakt so you can relabel each track.

Hope that helps?

The problem for me is I am using Steven Slate Drums which has two auxilary outputs which in SSD are Room Mics (NRG room and SSD Room). Kontakt only gives you 4 routing options in Kontakt for these Aux outputs which are to the same outputs as the first 4 instruments ie Kick drum on outputs 1&2, Auxilary outs also to outputs 1&2 which have the kick drum on them, so room mics and kick appear on the same audio track in X1. I cant see a way round this. This was never a problem in Kontakt 3.5 or 4.

Anyhow I hope the first part helps with your issue.

Hi Guys!

Dont know if you have the time or money to invest, but  "Groove 3" has a Kontakt Tutorial video that explains the routing procedure for this.
It was released for Kontakt 4, but I think it can still answer your question regarding "assigning outputs".

They're having a special where you can view all the video tutorial for one month for $9.99 (a steal!)

http://www.groove3.com/str/all-access-special.html

Check it out!

this video explains assigning kontakt outputs to tracks in samplitude, but if you can find your way around sonar x1, this should help

Yup...welcome to the sucko world of Kontakt mixer routing.  Why on gawds-green-earth those NI fellers can't just have a simple no nonsense mixer like, say...EZDrummer...is beyond me.  It is absolutely the most non-intuitive and cumbersome output routing in VST land.  I thought surely by now they would've changed it.  But no. Go figure.

Thanks Stinga, that did the trick. And ol pal, I know what you mean - it's baffling that such a great sampler should feature such a weird routing setup!

Good timing on this thread. I was puzzled by this last weekend where all outputs were going to 1/2 (seemingly) no matter what I did. Thanks STinGA!!

I always assumed that's just a label they put on those channels. There's nothing special about them. I just route 3/4 to those "aux" outputs, and 5/6 to the next two - and it works fine.
