Hey Cakers , a guy I`ve been collabing with for a few songs, Jim Baronas asked me if I could put vocals on his cover of Ordinary Man so here`s my take on it.
Guitars and arrangement by Jim Baronas
Drums by Jay H. Givan
Vocals by Alan Keillor

Hey Alan. This is a great rock tune with a melancholy feel. I thought the mix was pretty good. At around 3:05 where you did the left and right vocal I liked the panning. Something about the delivery on that section seemed off pitch to me maybe a candidate for Melodyne. This didn't bust the song but I  noticed it, mostly on the last part of "answer".

Ha Triumph! The mix feels spot on to me (I may push the drums just a weence.) When it's all kicked in, sometimes the vox seem to step on the drums. When there are no vox, the drums sit better. Love the vocals and the bass. I'm not familiar w/the the original so to me it was new, but it rocked pretty damn hard. Great job. Feels like it was mixed by the bass player :-) (But one who's pissed at the drummer (coming from a bass player))

Yeah just listened again, the drums are down in the mix, and lacking "punch." In some cases, quite a bit. Either that or my ears are just getting older.

Alan, this is really well done - the entire song is really top notch - I do love the vocals on this and the guitar solo is really sweet.

Buddy, your vocals seem to get better with each track.  That's good because they started out great.  It's always nice to hear you sing.  The music is very enjoyable also.  This is one I'd love to see played live.  I hadn't heard this (or I forgot) but I really like the tune.  My only crit would be that the bass sounds a bit "high freq'd) most of the time.  Could just be me.  I really like everything about this Alan.  Cudos to you and your buddies.

Good stuff!  Great performances on bass, guitars, and vocals.  Great song too!

The mix isn't terrible, but shooting from the hip, I might suggest looking at a few things:
- Drums need to come up.
- Bass is too hot especially during the middle solo and verses.  Also I think the bass EQ is interfering with the guitar/vocals in the high/mid freqs and could probably be better isolated from them by emphasizing lower frequencies more.
- Vocals might be a little too "present" as well (causing distortion in the high freqs), and maybe there's a bit too much effect on the vocals (flange/chorus?).  If the vocal is doubled maybe back off on one of them a bit so it doesn't cause as many phasing issues.
Just my $0.02!

Thanks Robby, well it was mixed by the bass player LOL well he`s the guitar player and bass player on it, he sent me a mixed music version then I mixed my vocals in. I`ll look at EQing my vocals to let the drums through a bit more.
Cheers!!!!!
