  • Any Sonar users using Maschine 2.0? How is the experience?

I am using Maschine and I love it but sometimes I need some core DAW features that Maschine lacks because well its not a DAW nor is it trying to be. What I want to do is use Maschine to create my instrumentation inside of Maschine. Has anyone gotten these guys to play nicely? I am using X1 but if I can find a good work around I will likely upgrade to X3.

A couple of weeks ago I said the same exact thing, so here are a couple of threads for you to study (should be enough reading for you)....

I am still a maschine amateur but hope to improve throughout the year if I ever get the time...

I've also just bought a Kontrol Z1 which makes a very useful additional ASIO card for your Windows Sounds.

Cheers...

I had (and have) Maschine Mikro which I upgraded to 2.0. There were a few items that were helpful...such as the new Mixer section.

I was in a period of transition with the Mikro, it is a useful tool and all, but I wanted the additional control components (knobs) that the full fledged Maschine offers. So I upgraded as a present to myself.

It seems to me that how effective either units are will depend somewhat on what you are trying to accomplish but since you are interested in Maschine I will assume that it has something attractive about it that interests you (which version may be a degree based decision). Based on that I can say that I like Maschine a lot. It provides some incredibly useful tools that are absent from Sonar and integrates quite well. It can be used as a controller, and a good one in my estimation, and you have the ability of audio sampling/mangling. As a bonus you have the ability to do some nice sequencing of things ala Live or Sonar's Matrix.

In short: +1

An additional ASIO card for Windows Sounds? I'm confused.

I use Maschine 1.8 in Sonar and it works pretty well. I've already explained above how I use it.
I think I would personally prefer it if Maschine would more easily relinquish control of its sequencing part when used as a plugin. But overall I'm very happy I have it and I turn to it anytime I need any electronic or produced sounding drums.

When did Windows become capable of using ASIO drivers?

I said ASIO card not ASIO drivers :)

My windows notification sounds and other sounds like youtube etc get directed to the Z1. I have other apps that access it's ASIO driver, and the output of this card goes straight into a couple of channels in my Saffire Pro.

I am not asking if I should buy Maschine. I already have it and I use it a ton. I love the 2.0 software. I am asking how to intergrate it into Sonar. I have had my Maschine for almost a year now. I am on X1 I was using it with Ableton for a while but looking for a better solution for it because while Ableton has every feature under the sun it doesn't handle cpu usage very well. I missed some things about Sonar so I am looking at going back to it but I want to intergrate Maschine into that workflow. When I was using Sonar X1 before I did not have Maschine.
