  • Importing multiple files into a multitrack project

I need help here. I just switched to Sonar X3 for Sonar 8.5 recently and I've been using importing audio files the following way.
In Sonar 8.5 I just click file > import audio track then if I select multiple tracks there, Sonar would import them into separate tracks in my current project, and even if I have a 16 track project open, and let's say I selected 22 tracks to import, it would then create more tracks for it while importing those files. This is the only thing that makes sense.
Now in Sonar X3 by doing the same, it would always import those files into one track, and those file line up in track one, one after another. This makes no sense at all. Is there a way to specify how multiple tracks would load into a project.
Please help as I can not find a documentation for this at all.

Yikes. I used the same tactic in S6 PE and just started dabbling in X2. Have you tried double clicking on a track to select all of them, like when you export audio for a mix? I'd also be inclined to create the extra tracks you need before importing.

Thanks for your reply!
Yes I have, and it still doesn't work. Sonar 8.5 was such a reliable and complete version, I don't understand all these unnecessary upgrades. If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it.

I heard that. I usually record full band projects on a modular Mackie recorder and import them in their Tracktion software for comping and pre mix editing before moving to Sonar. The first version had the same setup, and they solicited ideas for the follow up version. I requested that tracks fan out  from multiple takes on virtual tracks from the modular deck, and they listened. Hopefully Cakewalk is listening here and will fix this in all the X versions.

That would be great!

For a workaround, select the last track in your project and do the import.

I think that behavior is new to the 'X' series. I thought it was weird too.

try locating the files in the sonar browser and dragging them to the bottom of the track window...

I have not run into that, but i import my tracks by clicking on all the tracks i want to import and dragging and dropping them into Sonar. You should do the same.

I am sorry, but everything you guys suggested turns out to be the same result. No matter what I do all audio files end up in the same track! I don't know what's going on and I considered my self a Sonar expert up to the 8.5 version.

What happens if the SHIFT key is held while importing files?
