If one thing screws you up it simple changes like this. I'm JUST getting the hang of the dang thing. Problem is I'm still working in 8.5 sometimes and revert without thinking. How long did the midi editing stay the same in Sonar?

I never get away from the smart tool, unless I need the mute tool.
Learn how to use all the "tools" within the smart tool and you'll be an happy man.

According to the Sonar Documentation there is no such thing as copying by Ctl-Click-Drag anymore - or am I blind?  (I could be missing something completely obvious)  Can someone point to me where in the documentation for Smart Tool or Select Tool how you are supposed to Copy via Click and Drag?

Regardless the omission in the help file Cntrl LClick Drag works the same as it always did.  Cntrl LClick drag on a note and it will be copied.  Lasso select notes and Cntrl LClick Drag and the selected notes will be copied.  You have to click in the 'C' range box of the midi note (the move symbol will show).

It looks like that particular help topic is specifically focused on adjusting single MIDI notes.

use the smart tool in the piano roll view.
right click lasso, hold CNTRL and drag.
make sure its not a groove clip, just bounce to clips first.

Ok - thanks guys.  It must be my computer.  I recently went to the dark side and got a MacBookPro.  I'm running Sonar in Bootcamp and there must be some weird stuff happening.

Page 136 of both the X2 and X3 Ref. Guides:

Copying notes
To copy notes:
1. Press and hold the CTRL key down while you click the desired note(s).
2. While still holding the CTRL key and the left mouse button, drag the note(s) to the desired
location, then release the mouse button.
The note(s) is copied.

BrundleFly - Thanks for pointing that out.  I was able to figure out what is going on.  If I use Sonar in Bootcamp everything works as expected.  If I use Sonar in Fusion6 (VM) I'm getting this weird result where when trying to CTRL-Click the pointer turns into an eraser and erases the note.  I prefer to use Fusion6 because you can run Windows and Mac OS at the same time.  Bootcamp requires direct booting to Windows.  However, I've got an SSD drive so booting is fairly quick.

Just an FYI - in the future, if you're using a non-standard configuration, that's probably worth mentioning in the initial post. Cakewalk does not officially support running Sonar on the Mac precisely for the kind of reason you encountered. That said I know plenty of people who run Sonar under Boot Camp and it works great for them. But I understand Cakewalk's reluctance to say they support it, because then people would start asking Mac-specific questions re: Sonar that customer service isn't really set up to answer.
