I can't speak for any hive mind, but I think five free updates is pretty good going, value-for-money wise. And I'd be surprised if there was one this late in the cycle; they usually release in Autumn / Winter.

fair enough, though i see the "free updates" as "free bugfixes" at least as far as the x-series goes
(eta)so was that a x3f or x4?

I'm concerned about the new owners of Cakewalk also. It seems to me there are some serious bugs left unfixed. Sadly I can't use X3, because of a show stopper bug for me that I posted here. If there is no X3F, I may decide to jump ship and go to a new program. I've already been burned once by X1. I couldn't use it because of bugs.

I've used Cakewalk products since the DOS days and there was only 1 version, Cakewalk Pro Audio 7 that almost no one could use and Cakewalk bent over backwards to make that one right. Let's hope the new owners will be as responsible.

In my opinion, bug fixes, i.e. making it work the way it was originally *advertized* to work,
should be seen as living up to the original contract made at the time of sale.

Then again, if there's a functional work around to a problem I don't think we should be married to an expectation because of an inability to adapt and keep making music.

I agree totally. At least a workaround allows us to keep making music, even if it's not exactly the way we prefer.

I agree stuff should get fixed but Cakewalk/Gibson has been making a massive effort in fixing issues. No complaints right..... now. It's the difference between night and day when you compare it to the previous owners. I hope they keep it up and don't stop, close but no cigar yet. Great progress so far we should not dismiss the massive effort so far.

I'm glad to hear what you said. I just hope they get a cigar from you and all of us limping along. So I guess you think an X3f is still possible? It seems like the new products get released in the fall, if I remember correctly.

Everybody expects an X4 at the end of the fall. However a lot of patches have come out and I hope at least one more big one... lot of development in this though time we shall see. New owners as well and X4 probably needs to be a game changer in order keep relevant in the current climate. This will all take time... This is all speculation, but one thing isn't, don't bet on X4 being released on schedule. On the other hand that may be exactly what happens... nobody really knows. Place your bets now :).

I appreciate your insights since I've been out of the loop for a while and only back in it since I got X3 in April., I realize it's speculation, but I think it's intelligent speculation based on all the things you've seen gone down in the last several years. So tell me why do you think X4 is likely to be behind schedule? Were there more bugs and problems to fix in X3 than they anticipated?

I can't really comment more on schedule other than in the last post. I'm not in their office. My speculation is probably wild and crazy, I've certainly been wrong more times than right in this area so please take my musings with a pinch of salt! Cheers :)

"Limping along..."   Are you serious?  I'm a professional using this product for a LIVING!  I'm not even in the same universe as you.  What are you talking about?  Serious!  You've got to be joking, right?

Then you should read about all the unresolved bugs. It's obvious that you're not adversely affected by them, not everyone is. Some bugs are show stoppers for some, like me and I've used their products for decades for a living.
