Hi Gents, I found out that CW is to fast for me in delivering a new Sonar version every year.
Imo X3 e is fantastic, no matter for a quick shot.....
If the bakers can manage a x4 version in the x3 quality, go............

Mosvalve, one thing i can do is vouch for Studio One, it is actually easy peezy after the 'smallest' of learning curves.

LA2A, Working in Studio One isn't so bad. I am starting to get used to it. I suppose one can get used to any DAW but I found Sonar to be very easy to use right off the bat. Everything seems to be laid out in a way that's not confusing to me. I haven't used Cubase since version one so I cannot comment on it. I don't think I even want to put the time in to learn ProTools. There's no benefit as Sonar has me covered.

Yeah i dig ya, Mosvalve, well said! Sonar is kicking butt, no doubt about it. I've never tried Pro Tools and probably never will, but if it was the only DAW on earth, then i'm sure i could probably make peace with it somehow.

I wait with anticipation for Sonar X4. I think maybe we're actually spoilt these days, at least 3 top-tier DAWs doing things the right way (contrary to what some might believe, IMO there is a right and a wrong way to do everything, 90% of the time); anyway, i reckon it's good to have so many DAW options these days, better than struggling to find options, like in the past.
As far as i can remember, ten years ago up till about two years ago music artists were moving back and forward like a drunken sailor between DAWs, looking for the ideal feature/plugin/interface combination, but i reckon we have a good state of affairs now, at least three DAWs have nailed it, the zenith is approaching steadily. Lock me away in a room for ten years with the 'perfect' DAW plus 'accurate' loud monitors, and i'm happy; trouble is i still can't find the perfect DAW, i am yet to find perfection anywhere on planet earth, so i'll still be needing those StarBucks coffees down the road and fresh air for a while yet LOL.

Heck with electrodes for the console view. I want the electrodes to record what's going on in my head!

Most people, including off world furry aliens from far far far away, seem pleased with X3's stability and Cakewalk's dedication to making it more so. There's always a balance that needs to be struck between not ignoring the past while preparing for the future; I think Cakewalk is doing a very good job of walking that fine line, but wouldn't expect everyone to agree.

I understand the reasons it is just sometimes the plastic can feel a little stretched.

PS Interesting article in SoS this month "Using take lanes as layers"

PPS Thanks Alex, I have noticed that often these sorts of problems are down to implementation of the "Rules" shall we say and I believe that the Bakers probably implement them to the letter otherwise there would be more problems.  I actually think it has to do with the E-licencing than anything else.  But then I have been proved wrong before and am not afraid to say so.

As long as this forum exists, I'll never have to worry about coming up with article topics involving Sonar!

When it does happen I hope they have a more download friendly method in place. None of this download 8 gigs nonsense. Maybe set it up so that we can download the core program, the vsts, the vstis, the sound libraries in separate tranches. May not be possible on steam but the current method is not good enough for a lot of people.

I know some other companies do this as well, but I'd be interested in hearing more how you think it should work. Personally I really like how Native Instruments and XLN Audio install and manage their products. It's not always perfect, but it does make getting updates easy.

Geographically we've heard reports of bad download performance in Australia in the past, this situation has improved drastically in the last two years as our CDN provider added locations in Singapore and Australia. If you had a slow download or generally a slower connection - what file size do you feel is more reasonable if the installer was broken into multiple parts?

I agree with you Willy. I like how XLN does it. If XLN offered the ability to download an offline installer as well for each product (like NI) that would be optimal.

Actually willy, my files downloaded fine last time ( both from here and from steam). But I don't really use any of the sonar vsts, vstis, apart from pro channel. I don't use any of the demos or loops. I probably use a half a gig of the 8 gigs I download.

As for companies that I feel do it right. Well, I don't wish to name competitors but Studio One has the sort of method I would like to see here. Native Instruments is very good too.

Does Sonar work on other planets?  Just trying to plan.
