Place me in with the others. I like it just as it is.

John, you're like a drunk guy walking around with his head in a sack if you think the current method is as good as it gets.

I have been doing the DAW thing for a decade now and have a full set of high class plugins. I don't need addictive drums or dim pro or any cake plugs apart from pro channel and channel tools. I don't need demos and manifold superfluous loops and one-hits.

Make the core program available ( like reaper, as a tiny download), and make all the extras available as optional downloads.

Please....

Central authorisation works. Just one user account and password. File path can always be customised one hopes. ISO (like NI) has a massive disadvantage because it gets blocked by virus scanners when attempting to mount. An offline install package is worthwhile but when installing online, automating it so they all run off the same parameter without having to enter the same info again and again like XLN does (NI often fails here) is worthwhile. Plus of course integtated store apps are cool and is a great business model.... And integrated updates rule. If people want business as usual they can just install the downloaded packages offline away from a central management interface just like NI offers. But they will soon realise the advantages....Cheers

Please be nice - everyone's opinion is valid, and many folks have differing wants/needs.  :)

I am not suggesting an authorization manager.

I want a download manager that indicates
what I have purchased, and install numbers as required
what has been downloaded, and if the files are in the local designated download folder
    what has been installed, version
list of any updates available for the downloaded/installed programs, plugs, extras

And I want smaller files, grouped by category.

I already have the majority of stuff that comes with Sonar. For me, if it is not an update I do not need again.

And therefore I want, a greatly improved installation process that provides for identifying ALL folder paths for ALL settings, presets, samples, programs,......

Nothing a user can modify should ever be saved to a location that is not part of any backup software's default settings. When I save a preset it should be saved, by Sonar defaults, in an appropriate folder in the documents folder so my backup software will automatically include it.
(This folder should be selectable. But it should by default be in the Docs folder.)

The user should never be allowed to save anything to any folder in the "program files" folders, nor in the user\appdata folder.  These folders are NOT quickly and easily accessible. Some are hidden.

I would be willing to bet Cakewalk finds the specificity of your post very helpful.

My only issue is I'm using the g4 cell network because I'm rural and have no other option other than very pricey satellite internet. So I pay $10 per Gig. I'm sure there's a few others out there as well. Not everyone in the world has access to unlimited bandwidth.
Sure I could wait a few months and pick up Sonar when I go to the big city,,, but wait, last time I was in Vancouver nobody had X3 in stock yet. I could order the box on line too, but I pay about $14 shipping for that size a parcel.
So think of all your customers who really do need to download to stay up to date and be kind to them as far as bandwith goes. And please do something about the way the updates are presented.

I waited until I had access to unlimited bandwith to download X3 which went smoothly. But I get home and find out there was an update!??
I was pizzed thinking that the original version I downloaded SHOULD have been the latest version. Why is this like this?
Why was the update over 4 Gigs?? It cost me $40.
Fine for those who have 120 Gigs a month bandwidth..
Anyhow, just my feedback on my experience.
Otherwise I'm happy and will carry on with what I have. I for one am not interested in X4, 5 or 6. But I'll buy X7  as X3 won't run on Windows 12.3. 128 bit.

I reckon this is a good way to do things, but obviously continue to make any download automatically install to the same place they would if we were installing from the disks from the retail box.
Having the extra option to download and install any part we wish separately is good sense in my books. But having the original installation disks from the retail box is still essential too IMO.
On other matters I hate the way NI and IK Multimedia enforce that stupid authorization manager, i don't buy any NI or IK Multimedia plugins purely because of this, i find authorization managers absolutely 'sickening', i can't stand them.

oops! Double post! Two things in this Cakewalk forum compared to other forums. It is not immediately obvious how to delete an accidental double-post, secondly the quote functions seem a bit elusive to me, although i haven't tried very hard, i still can't figure it out!!!!!
