Ditto Chainer (Xlutop) - most stable VST host ever...it could handle anything you threw at it (VST 2.x anyway), even things developed way after Chainer development ended.

@anderton: you are right channel tools is more than capable, for sure. I would like to see that kind of control readily accessible as protools has it, above the fader, or available as a PC plugin which can be added across all tracks therefore immediately viewable in each mixer channel or inspector without having to open up individual individual plugins as you would with channel tools.

$329 for the softtube mix bundle. A trifle expensive I would say.

What qualifies as a truffle expensive then?

You mean like this? Here's how to do it.

1. Create an FX chain based on Channel Tools. Assign one knob to left angle, and one knob to right angle. (I also added a phase invert switch so it would be accessible from the ProChannel).
2. Call up your normal template and insert the new FX chain into each track's ProChannel.
3. Save the template.

Now when you start up with the Normal template, your tracks will include this ProChannel module. If you need to add more tracks, just clone a track (without events) and the new track's ProChannel will include the "Channel Control" FX chain.

And don't forget you still have four knobs and five switches available if you want to include the Swap Channels option, set up the delays for each channel, change the input mode to mid/side, or whatever.

I've read a few comments since the PC was introduced along the lines of "I have no interest in the ProChannel and never use it," which I've never fully understood since about the only advantage I can think of for using FX bins over the PC is that you don't have to click on the console to open it and it doesn't take up any more horizontal room, however for me this is more than offset by the fact that the PC allows you to see the whole effects chain instead of the 3 or 4 plugins you can see in the minuscule FX bin. I mean the PC FX chains have way more effects visible, and you can have as many as you like. On the few times I've experimented with the FX bin, I couldn't believe how fiddly and cramped it felt. Oh and the Quadcurve EQ is reason alone to use it (although I wish you could have more than one instance).

The ProChannel definitely needs a Channel Tools like effect built in as a module though. I definitely miss the stereo panning knobs in Pro Tools and have never felt fully comfortable with horizontal sliders (although the L/R width controls are very useful).

The PC also needs a built in delay.

Excellent idea, I'm going to rustle me up one of these!

You can add delay with the leftover knobs. The only bummer is if you try to insert one of these in every module using QuickGroup, it will insert a generic FX chain in each PC so you still have to load the specific chain yourself. Ditto if you make the collection of modules your PC default. That's why I suggest making them part of the template.

Give me a few minutes and I'll whip one up for y'all.

All right...here you go. It was time for a gift to the forum anyway.

  • The top switch sets Delay mode - dim for pre, lit for post.
  • The next row of switches invert the left channel polarity, swap the left/right channels, and invert the right channel polarity.
  • The top two knobs handle delay.
  • The bottom two knobs handle panning for the left and right channels.

Here's the download link (good for 7 days). Enjoy!

I have a bunch of effects chains that I use all the time, I should do something with them.
