I recently started using SONAR X3 I've been using SONAR X2 until I finished a major project.

It seems to me several VSTi's are missing. In particular I cannot find dimension Pro

Hi, in your dowload (assuming you did downlod) of X3 you should have got separate installation files for Dimension Pro and the expansion packs, you have to install those separately it isn't installed automatically with X3, did you do that ?

Yes and no, I had installed it under x2. But silly me, I forgot that I had built a new DAW and never reinstalled dimension pro.

Am I correct though in seeing that the vst scan does not search through subdirectories?

No, Vstscan recursively scans the directory paths in Preferences > File > VST Settings "VST Scan Paths."

I'm pretty sure it does, although uncertain of the depth, I have sub directories and they seem to scan fine.

As I am just starting to install my X3ePE in a new i7, I am wondering about the samples that go in with Dim Pro, too. Can I move them to my library drive? It's en route here, so I am installing what I can without having to move it all after I get and install the 2 extra drives.
    In addition to the expansion packs that come on the X3 DVD's, I have 14 volumes of the Dim Pro, so I want all of that on the library drive.

Does Dim Pro exist in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Dimension Pro?
 
The above is the default location for it.
 
Does it show up in the list of excluded plugins, in the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager?
 
And, Sonar will scan down multiple levels into parent folders during a VST scan.

The best way to relocate the DimPro multisamples is using the mklink command line utility with the /d or /j switch. The directory junction can be made in advance of installation. For example, if the sample path is "s:\DimPro\Multisamples" run the cmd.exe as administrator and issue the following commands:
mkdir "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro"
mklink /j "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" "s:\DimPro\Multisamples"
 
To relocate the files after installation, move "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro" to the desired location and issue the mklink command.

Being a pro guitarist (51 years), home studio guy who saw the advantages of DAW/Sonar (in 2001), I usually drag a folder to the place I want it and click. I am not that advanced computer-wise and have never tried those kinds of commands, let alone even heard of mklink, /d, /j switch, mkdir, or mklink /j, and the the mklink command line utility with the /d or /j switch!
      I will read/search and educate myself on this, so I appreciate your response, even though I feel it's way over my head.
       When you mention "if the sample path is "s:\DimPro\Multisamples", do you mean the path that is NOW or the one that I want to move them to?
       Is a /j switch, then a command to redirect the address (pardon my language) , does it also require moving the samples (like I usually do)to the new location/address? Or is the mklink command line utility with the /d or /j switch
the "action" that moves them?

In my example "s:\DimPro\Multisamples" is the path I want to use instead of the default "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples".
 
"mklink /j" creates a directory junction, a special kind of link. Once it is created, anytime a program accesses "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" the OS will actually use "s:\DimPro\Multisamples." If the junction is made before installing any files in "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples", there is no need to move anything because the files will actually be installed on "s:\DimPro\Multisamples." If, on the other hand, the path "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" already exists, it must be moved to "s:\DimPro\Multisamples" prior to creating the directory junction. The mklink command only creates the link, it does not move data. The mklink command will fail if "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" already exists on the drive.
