I think:
2. Introduce a brand new control surface or one of the famous controller in the market + a patch update for compatibility.

I still think it's going to be with Nektar.
Someone who wrote to them recently about a problem received a reply to the effect that they couldn't fix that problem at the moment as they're too busy with new software.

Got to be integration with sonar. :)

That would HARDLY be worth this level of hype. They could toss Nektar integration into one of their regular rolling updates.

Soundwise
Big things I can think of:
  • Staff view replaced by advanced notation editor, Cakewalk's own or 3rd party

I would love that, along with something akin to the expression maps in Cubase.

Maybe but whatever it is I hope they don't choose a toy for such a good DAW like sonar. As i said if they can add the protools protocol, our hands will be open to choose a HW based on our budget.

Toy? Have you actually ever used a Nektar Panorama, the level of integration with the daw and vst's is great.

My speculation is:

FX processing will be able to be off loaded to Nvidia Graphics cards.

"FX processing will be able to be off loaded to Nvidia Graphics cards"

I sure hope not, had nothing but headaches, DPC latency abominations and other general bugginess with Nvidia!

I hope it's not something along the lines of IK Multimedia's marketing, i.e. based on a belief that all customers want to make music only their iPhones and tablets.

My guess: significant price drop for both new and existing users. This would explain why the current lifetime renewal shows a regular price of $499 (or whatever it is - mine is in EUR) before being discounted to $99/$199. So I expect that new customers will be able to get Sonar Platinum for $199 or so with a 1 year membership, instead of the $499 today. For $499 they would get a lifetime membership. I would also not be surprised if they dropped Professional.
