So I'm hoping, perhaps foolishly, that there will be some sort of staff view improvements soon. I subscribed to the monthly pay model Jan 2015, and since then there have been a handful of staff view bug fixes. Most of them I'd never encountered and I've been working in Sonar since version 2. "Lackluster" is a good word to describe progress in this area, though I will give them credit that they gave it
some attention, which is better than it has been in the past.
I don't expect improvements to staff view to be a part of these announcements. At this point I see 3 possible options for the bakers:
1. Actually devote real dev time to fixing long-standing annoyances and add actual useful features or polish to the staff view. I think if this were going to happen, it already would have.
2. Integrate a 3rd party notation system. As a software developer myself, this could actually be more difficult than just a full rewrite in-house. I don't like this option because Sonar's staff view is unique in many ways and there are things I do like about it. Third-party integration would likely throw out the baby with the bathwater and we'd end up with something completely different.
3. Open source the staff view portion of the code. I know this may not even be technically possible, but if it were, I would love the opportunity for the community to fix and enhance the code, and create pull requests for Cakewalk to review and roll into the next release cycle.
Obviously this post is only tangentially related to the "big announcements" since I don't think staff view will be involved, but I've noticed a lack of posts regarding these issues lately and decided to remind Cake that we, the staff view weirdos, still exist and that I for one am still wanting real movement in this area.
