Available now: Introducing lifetime updates for SONAR Platinum   Dear SONAR Platinum customer,

<sarcasm on>
And then Cakewalk announced a new Sonar Osmium series.

As usual I'm confused. I just spent $200 on my Platinum renewal in Feb. and now I have to pay another $200??

It seems that Cakewalk needs to generate a lump of cash on short notice. No emails here, just a sense of "WTF NOW". How will the rules change next month?

This takes me back to X1 and then X1 Producer and then X1 Producer plus. Just continuous change that feels like you guys just make it up as you go along. If you are going to change the rules just get on with it. Don't tease, don't release little bits of the big picture.

The last year has been great but I'm getting tired of Cakewalk showing up with their hands out asking if I've any change to spare.

Perhaps I'll get the memo one day and understand what everyone is so happy about. Right now, not so much.

Disregarding that I think 200 is too much for a Platinum renewal (I paid 130 or so through JRR Shop) I believe that the email states that if you already renewed, you get to pay 100 instead of 200. It didn't show up correctly for me either. I think Andrew had to fix something.

I, too, received the email about the announcement but not about the lifetime membership.

I'm far behind reading this thread, but I also did not get that purported email.

I finally received the 'upcoming announcement' email this morning, but I haven't received anything about lifetime upgrades. I purchased my SPLAT renewal in late Feb from a third party.

FWIW, I'm really hoping that the June 1st announcement is Mac OS compatibility. The PC platform is seriously falling behind in supporting music production, especially the latest Thunderbolt hardware interfaces. The only reason that I haven't moved to the Mac platform already is SONAR.

I hope it's for the Lisa first.

Got $199 as well following the other guys link. Wonder what the timeline is that decides the pricing? Not complaining (unless Sonar goes out next year) but more curious since another guy I know said his was $99. :)

Wondering that, as well. Mine was $525.00 by following the link, which is quite a bit higher, obviously. I migrated to Platinum from X3 Producer and have already renewed Platinum once. Also own a number of other Cake products.

Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but my offer is much less tempting than one at 199. :)

Excited to see the lifetime model, though.

I didn't renew membership this year (nothing against Sonar, just thought I'd wait until I decide whether to build a new PC DAW or not). The price I'm offered is £420. Which is over $600. Not very tempting I'm afraid.

Did you guys press the BUY button to see the cart price? And were you signed in?

Although I never received the email about the lifetime membership, I'm definitely going to hold off until the June 1st announcement. IF lifetime membership meant core functionality (aux tracks, fixes, etc.) but NO add-ons (Vocal Sync, Drum Replacer, etc.) unless you bought them individually as needed, I'd probably be more inclined to stick with the current annual renewal model. Although I don't use all of those bundled features day-in and day-out, they're still nice to have. And depending on how much those would cost on their own ($99? $149? More?) things could get real expensive, real quick.

But going this route (if indeed that's what the plan is) does makes sense, because there's been a lot of feedback regarding the new rolling updates and a very common criticism has been the "junk" that gets bundled with the rolling updates. Some folks just want the program itself and don't feel all the added content justifies the cost, so this would seem to be a good way to address that. I for one like the model exactly as is (I upgraded to SPlat in 2015 then did an annual renewal this year), but giving users more options for features/payments is a good thing.

I just hope June's BIG announcement isn't only about new membership options. Hopefully there's some exciting news about the software itself, and not just how people pay for it...
