Although I never received the email about the lifetime membership, I'm definitely going to hold off until the June 1st announcement. IF lifetime membership meant core functionality (aux tracks, fixes, etc.) but NO add-ons (Vocal Sync, Drum Replacer, etc.) unless you bought them individually as needed, I'd probably be more inclined to stick with the current annual renewal model. Although I don't use all of those bundled features day-in and day-out, they're still nice to have. And depending on how much those would cost on their own ($99? $149? More?) things could get real expensive, real quick.
But going this route (if indeed that's what the plan is) does makes sense, because there's been a lot of feedback regarding the new rolling updates and a very common criticism has been the "junk" that gets bundled with the rolling updates. Some folks just want the program itself and don't feel all the added content justifies the cost, so this would seem to be a good way to address that. I for one like the model exactly as is (I upgraded to SPlat in 2015 then did an annual renewal this year), but giving users more options for features/payments is a good thing.
I just hope June's BIG announcement isn't
only about new membership options. Hopefully there's some exciting news about the software itself, and not just how people pay for it...
