1. Logic - a full DAW that I think most would put on the Platinum scale in terms of the package = $200
2. Fruity Loops = lifetime updates for FREE

3. a bit surprised by those happy to shell out so much money with so little detail

1. But the Mac hardware cost more than makes it a bigger investment for the first time DAW user
2. I believe that this is what the SPlat users (only) offer is. That is confirmed in my offer email.
3. If you are in the right category (upgraded to Plat in 2015 and upgraded/renewed to Plat in 2016) you should eventually get the offer email for $99. That, IMO is not "so much money for so little detail" since the offer email spelled out the details.

3)  Plat is about $500 to start (i.e you bought one of the top of the line previous Sonar versions in that price range)
+ $150 upgrade to Plat + $100 renewal $100 lfetime

Thats $850 if you bought X3 Producer about 2 years ago.  That is quite expensive, IMO.  Seriously something to think about.

And the details are still unclear to a degree.  What are "core features?"  I have a feeling quite a few will disagree over what features are core.

$99 for any owner of Plat might not be a horrific upgrade to a lifetime update program, but Fruity Loops seems to offer a similar model for free.  (and only $39) if you have an ancient version and want to upgrade to the lifetime update model.

The lifetime option is very inexpensive and a no brainer (for me). However, why purchase it now? Isn't the offer good for awhile? That is, what do you get now that you won't get later? Am I missing something?

Thanks

Nope, not missing a thing. You can buy whenever you want up to August 31st

It will be a brand new DAW built from the ground up.

For the Sinclair?

Hey I have one of those!

Know what I think?   I think Sonar is done.  The bakers are unveiling new software that will be way different, built from the ground up and maybe it will work with Macs also.  The old Sonar will still be supported and updates will happen, but not so consequential.  That is why lifetime updates will be feasible for Gibson/Cake.

Perhaps there will be a Staff based version...

I can confirm this is NOT the case at all. The announcement is about SONAR development. It's positive news. We've been listening to customers a lot. We want to make them happy. I assume lifetime updates would be considered pretty significant news. The other news is equally as positive. I am not sure why you think introducing a new product would be considered good news for SONAR customers, especially after introducing lifetime updates :)

So if I pay the $299 to upgrade my Professional license will I then be eligible for the $99 lifetime license?

$400 to never have to upgrade again and all the add-ons I get from the upgrade is a pretty sweet deal...

I'd PM Andrew and ask that question. It seems a little out of teh since it is the Platinum users who upgraded to Platinum in 2015 and upgraded(again) or renewed in 2016 that get the $99.

I hope I'm wrong in your case but I suspect the best price you would see in $199 after upgrading to Plat.

A "little bird" sent me a PM and told me to wait until June 1st at which time I will be "very happy."

So.... I will wait
