some might even speculate that it was a deliberate hype-generating action by marketing ;-)

Well, given that the only way to cancel your subscription will be to terminate your life, you will need to threaten them with a gun to your head

So... paying the $100 for lifetime upgrades was a bad idea? LOL

Only if Cakewalk goes under before Jan 2018.

I never received the email. I followed a link provided earlier in this thread. My pricing was correct. I purchased the infinity membership. I upgrade every year anyway, so now I don't have to worry about any more yearly outlays for function, and if I really have gas for a phabulous phart philter, or some other add-on, I can pick it up whenever.

Really enjoying the new gui, thanks loads.

Interesting.  I don't have any informed speculation about the exciting new development.  However the offer of a paid-up-for-life version of Platinum suggests that Gibson/Cakewalk sees DAWs in general and SONAR in particular as starting to approach the end of their mission.  That isn't to say that DAWs are going away, only that the DAW foundation and core feature set are pretty stable.  Future developments will mostly be at higher layers and/or separate products that live in the DAW ecosystem.  And these products won't necessarily be free to the Platinum user.  Examples, FWIW, include LANDR and Melodyne.

I am not suggesting that the DAW development will be frozen, but that over time, Cakewalk will consider there is less and less they want to do with that product.

If my speculation is correct, that is not good news for people who have been hoping to see big improvements in MIDI editing and music notation, to name a couple of soft areas.  I am not suggesting such a product direction would be wrong, evil or anything else.  Every product needs to find its niche and Cakewalk has made enormous progress on solidifying SONAR since the Platinum program was announced.  Realistically, those who really want strong DAW/Notation synergy will probably end up on Dorico and Cubase.  But I would sure like to see the rough edges of MIDI editing worked out in SONAR.

I realize probably few people have read all the posts in this mammoth thread, but that's been addressed previously. Bottom line is SONAR is Cakewalk's flagship product and is what builds up a portfolio of technologies that can have other potential uses. Ceasing development on SONAR would be like General Motors deciding they weren't going to do any more research on engines.

Ok now... this is a mammoth thread and so many have put their concerns in so many different ways regarding jumping for the lifetime updates of Sonar Platinum. I did have concerns of my own, some of which seem to be clarified by some posts, some views, sort of...

But here's what... let me put the questions I have in a different way and hopefully I get a convincing answer (from Andrew, Craig or other CW team members) for this to swing the tide for me in favor of the lifetime updates as compared to sticking with the monthly or annual...

So here goes... What advantage does one have in sticking to the monthly/annual update cycle and not going for the lifetime updates option ? What do I gain if I stick to annual updates ? What do I lose if I switch to lifetime updates which I would not lose if I stay with annual ?

I will wait for specific answers to above but it makes me think... if answers to all the above are "Nothing", why would any current Platinum user not jump for the lifetime updates option ?

With monthly/annual everything would be included as it is now, people with lifetime updates would have to pay extra for things, such as Drum Replacer, Vocal sync and 3rd party plugs
