Whoa. That lifetime updates thing is... interesting.

So clearly, part of Cakewalk's plans has to be something that adds other revenue streams. Because no company in the world wants me to pay £148 now - which is the price I'm being offered - and then get zero from me for the rest of forever.

So.. hmm. Interested, but a little nervous.

Some guesses: rental of certain features, like the Slate rental model. Also maybe in app purchases of same. Long term, maybe the core app becomes free.

Just speculating, of course.

hmmm. No e-mail here. I usually get them.

You are active. You got no emails at all today? That's odd.

Good. Maybe I deleted it and forgot? It could happen. I think I got the message anyway. Thanks for checking.

Available now: Introducing lifetime updates for SONAR Platinum   Dear SONAR Platinum customer,

We have some huge announcements coming on Wednesday, June 1st, 2016. There’s one part of that announcement that we just couldn’t wait to share with customers like you, who renewed SONAR Platinum this year.

First, thank you for your support over the past 18 months. Your loyalty has been extraordinary and we hope you’ve enjoyed the monthly updates as much as we’ve enjoyed delivering them. 18 months ago, Cakewalk committed to a bold idea of delivering monthly updates. We believe our new model is the future of software development.

Today, we are upping the ante by introducing lifetime updates for a limited time. When you upgrade to SONAR Platinum today, you will receive every new core feature, enhancement, and even fixes for all future versions of SONAR. Yes, you read that correctly:
No more paying for future upgrades, updates, fixes or renewalsContinue to enjoy our Rolling UpdatesPay only for optional add-ons and content
As a valued customer, we wanted to share this exclusive news with you before the rest of the world hears about it on June 1st, 2016. And starting today, you can buy lifetime updates through a special link on our webstore.

This seems too good to be true. I logged in, hit BUY NOW, and it's telling me I can get lifetime updates for only $99? How is that even remotely feasible for Cakewalk from an economic standpoint? Does this include only bug fixes, etc.? Or does it include everything I'm currently getting with my yearly membership fee?

Big announcements coming June 1st, 2016  .  Good New's Only ?

OK , a couple of unsubstantiated Totally Raw Wild guesses over here . From an imagination with out borders  .

1, Cakewalk decided to take over the whole Nomad Factory catalog and it is now included it in Splat ...

2, Cakewalk decided to not waste precious time fixing the staff view and went into a partnership / distribution  agreement with an Industry Standard Notation Software Company .

3 . a ,  In a totally bold unexpected move , Cakewalk solidified it's alliance even further with Microsoft .
The goal of having a fully self contained autonomous  DAW that was unencumbered with the daily day to day chores of general computing needs and maintenance was finally actualized when Microsoft decided that it would be advantageous for them to rewrite a specific version of Windows 10 64 Pro strictly for Professional DAW use only .

3 . b , As a result of that strategic move from Microsoft , Gibson decided to test the waters and come out with a new line of affordable Tascam products  that are fully capable of satisfying even the most discriminating of DAW Power user's .
This new product line will not only be well suited for Mobile recording and general home studio use,
These new units will run SONAR Splat in Windows 10   .

all the best,

Kenny

I assume the prices are individually tailored to where each customer is in the upgrade tree. It's always been that way.
