I don't think this will be trivial. I would say lifetime updates is already pretty significant. The other two are significant as well.

So there's 2 other things on June 1st then.

Damn, i spent all this time just trying to work out what one thing could be, now i've got to worry about 2 things, lol.

My wife says: "It's Probably a new compressor, cause you can't have enough of those, right?"

This is V.V. Funny!

Doubles the chances for a Mac version.
( not really, but I can delude myself for a couple more days )

To kick this marketing buzz fest to an even higher level of frenzy, Cake should start a contest:

If you guess correctly one of the two other new things, you get your name put in a drawing for a discount on the one thing you guessed right.

If you guess both new things correctly, you get your name put in a drawing for a free version of one of the two new things.

Here are my entries to the nonexistent contest:

1) Mac version of Sonar (of course)
2) iPad Sonar control app for both PC and Mac versions

I am a longtime Cakewalk user. Got a nice lifetime offer I will accept.
Having said that I think I have an idea what the announcements may contain.

I visited a MusicFair in Europe two months ago and asked why a particular controller would not accommodate Sonar but all the other “popular” DAW’s. The manager gave me two reasons:
  1. Sonar is among DAW’s a very small player
  2. The type of programming of Sonar makes it difficult.

Especially with the first point I had difficulties. When I combine it with the lifetime offer I must conclude that survival chances for Sonar decline if it is the truth.

So my guess is that Sonar …… combines/ merges with another big DAW ! I even have an idea which DAW it is: …. Magix Samplitude. Popularity of Samplitude has been steadily declining and last month Samplitude Suite, a 600 dollar package, has been offered to me for 150 dollar.

Just an idea that moves in another direction than de MAC theory

Hmm. This strikes me as remarkably unlikely. How would one go about 'merging' Sonar with Samplitude? They have completely different codebases. I think that would quite likely be a more difficult proposition, and certainly make less sense, than starting a whole new one from scratch.

Samplitude is a very fine product, from everything I've heard and read. And I don't think Magix is exactly on the ropes or anything - they just bought most of the Sony Creative Software fleet, including Sound Forge, Acid and the Vegas family. But I don't have the impression Gibson is looking to unload Sonar just yet, and it wouldn't make much sense for Magix to buy Cakewalk even if they were, so unless Gibson has secretly acquired Magix and isn't announcing it yet, I think this is a red herring.

That offer on Samplitude Suite would be tempting though! Not that I need to learn yet another DAW or anything.
