Wow, that sucks to get torpedoed by the hacks at microsoft as they stand around and watch everyone go down.

I have a new issue on my laptop - this was happening before the Windows update.

Attempting to open any project results in the "SONARPLT.exe has stopped working" error.

The workaround is to open in Safe Mode, choosing "No to all".
Then close the project without saving

This now allows the project to open normally

Symptoms did not change for me after the KB3201845 update. My test case is inserting CA-2A into a new project after rebooting, which consistently raises a stack overrun exception.

I just tried that and Sonar is crashing here too.

Does this affect Sonar in other ways too? If I start a new project (ctrl+n), my media browser shows "Track Templates", but displays the "desktop" icons instead. If I type "2A" in the search field (which I did by accident), Sonar hangs showing a blue spinning circle cursor. I can't escape out of it and have to kill Sonar.

Not seeing that, seems unrelated to the Windows problem being described in this thread. Not unless what you're seeing is a hang during a VST scan. Until this gets sorted, I'd suggest turning off automatic scanning (which I normally do anyway). In Preferences -> VST Settings, choose "Manual Scan" under "Scan Options" and un-check the "Rescan Existing Plugins" box.

Could it be related to jBridge/BitBridge ? I have multiple versions of SONAR installed on my Win7 64bit workstation (I have bought all the versions starting from 8.5.3 Producer to the latest SONAR Platinum). Earlier on this year, jBridge started giving me a lot of stability problems with plug-ins that had worked just fine before. On a side dish, SONAR Platinum seems to be somewhat more unstable with each update, regardless of whether I use jBridged/BitBridged VST plug-ins or not.

I personally have had this feeling ever since X1 that there's been a lot of "surface improvements", but the second you look under the hood, uh oh ......... That's why, believe it or not, I've often stuck to Sonar 8.5.3 Producer Edition. It gets the stuff done. Only when there's been a special situation where I've required the newer versions of SONAR for some reason - usually related to the project becoming _huge_ and starting to glitch/crash during rendering or so, I've reopened the project with a newer SONAR version.

The quoted workaround works for me as well. Simple enough. After that Sonar works fine as always.
I'm confident the Bakers will find a solution now that we know what the issue is.

This is why I refer to MS updates as Automatic Corruptdates.

Glad to see this problem is being addressed. I've had similar crashes, especially when applying CA-2A in ProChannel. I tried re-installing CA-2A which seemed to help, for a day, but then it happened again. Also, during a VST scan, especially if I launched a project before the scan was completed.

An interesting, but unpleasant, 'feature' of this bug is that when SONAR blows up, I can't re-launch the app most of the time, or if it opens the audio is messed up.

Worse, I can't even kill the process in Task Manager! It just lingers, forcing me to reboot the entire machine! Very not fun!

I'll be paying close attention to this thread in anticipation of getting the definitive solution to this vexing bug!

...wicked
I did some mucking about in Services and the Command Line and got my Win updates working again, after getting current I started SONAR in safe mode and noticed my driver mode was ASIO. I tried WASAPI and voila, audio interface connected, and projects seem to be loading fine. Even one's with the aforementioned bad plugz. Probably all unrelated but there ya go. :-)

've been getting this as I demo Sonar and Samplitude - but only in Samplitude which crashes the entire OS. Not had a blue screen for years - has anyone had blue screens from the Sonar crashes?
