i have found windows 10 to be the fastest and most stable version of windows yet, i literally have 0 problems with it. i was initially very hesitant to leave windows 7 behind as it was also for me the best to that point, but i bit the bullet and upgraded all my pc's and laptops to windows 10. after a few false starts and going back to windows 7 a couple of times, and getting over my initial concerns with windows 10, mainly due to aesthetic issues on release, i just didn't like the look of it, everything seemed blindingly white, i worked out how to get things acceptable, adding color here and there, title bars etc, and getting things the way i liked, or at least acceptable to me (which of course these things were added/fixed in subsequent releases) i wouldn't go back to windows 7 for the world, just wouldn't want to. windows 10 to me is far superior, in speed, stability etc. of course i have had windows update disabled on all my systems, both professional and home versions for some time, i think the last updates for windows 10 that were installed were back in july of this year. i have no issues whatsoever with anything i run, and all my computers are permanently online (except for when they are switched off )

of course ymmv, but for me windows 10 has been a great experience, one in which the thought of going back to windows 7 never even crosses my mind. sonar runs better than it ever has (thanks in no small part to performance improvements and load balancing etc that cakewalk has introduced) my other daw's run flawlessly, very happy camper with windows 10.

I'm with you as far as liking Windows 10, and having no issues at the present time!  As a habitual late adopter, I waited until the final hours for the free upgrade deal back in July.  Then I upgraded my main PC and my laptop.

However, I am dismayed at all of the issues being reported here with Sonar and Windows 10.  I did perform a disk wipe and clean installed Windows 10 initially, so I'm not sitting on an upgraded OS.  But I am puzzled by why some users got hit and not all?  It must be that certain system configurations are more vulnerable to this particular bug than others.

I know they are working on a fix, and I hope it comes soon!

yes it is puzzling, but with so many variations in users software and hardware and all the variables, mind boggling actually that things run at all, glad i don't have to deal with working it all out, and also thankful for not suffering the issues experienced by others (touch wood) i do tend to think i made the right choice stopping windows update before the anniversary update stuff, although at some point it 'may' bite me on the @$$, if so i'll deal with it then, for now it's smooth sailing. main reason for stopping the updates was due to fear my audio interface's may stop working if i done the anniversary update as drivers are no longer updated and haven't been for quite a number of years and i'm not yet ready to ditch my interface's. (no doubt when i do i'll be kicking myself for not doing it much, much earlier, but . . )

i have 2 computers that are clean installs from retail purchased windows 10, and 3 that are 'in place' upgrades, and they all seem run as good as each other, for which i am thankful, didn't want to, and not looking forward to having to reinstall and setup all that software what a mission that would be

I too have held off on the "Anniversary Update".  I heard that it was essentially a system upgrade release, so I decided to wait for Microsoft to work out the bugs.  There was a huge topic on Reddit devoted to the new release, with regular visits from a Microsoft employee dedicated to the task.

I just heard recently that Microsoft has declared Windows 10, version 1607 (Anniversary Update), to be compatible with the Current Branch for Business (CBB).  That means it is finally an actual release version suitable for business customers.  Never mind us *riff-raff that have been potentially beta testing the latest release for the past six months!

After the first of the new year, I may take a system image backup, then plunge into the deep end of the pool

Same here.  I'm also having trouble with vst scans, but they haven't crashed Sonar yet.

I'm not sure when my issue started occurring as far as relativity to Windows updates, but I know Sonar began crashing repeatedly and randomly for me about two weeks ago.

I don't run any of the plugins listed in the OP, though.  I run Addictive Drums 2, Peavey Revalver, and a few stock Cake plugins (Sonitus and BT EQs and compressors), and Blue Cat chorus.  None of which have been an issue with Platinum in the past.

It's crashing at absolute random...during playback, during recording...and yes, I kid you not, during NOTHING.  I literally just let a project sit open, unattended, and came back 15 minutes later to it having frozen up and crashed.

Occasionally Cake will let me send a crash report, but most of the time Cake's crash report thing doesn't even pop up....just the Windows "Sonar has stopped responding, would you like to close it" thing.

There were a couple of instances where a fatal error message popped up claiming there was an issue with a third party TS808 plugin I was using (not realizing I had one in Revalver that was just as good, if not better, lol.)  So I deleted that plugin from my projects, but the overall crashing problem remains.

It's not a hardware issue, as I run an ASUS RoG G-series with an i7, plenty of RAM, and can run a full 25+ track project with half a dozen realtime plugins on each track and still not break 10% CPU usage.  Also have 75% free disk space on my OS drive.

It should also be noted that on this particular machine, I run 8.1, not 10.

My interface has fully updated drivers, everything's up to date (including Windows, Sonar, Revalver, etc.)

I haven't updated to 11-16 yet, (10-16) but am also having instability issues I've never
seen before. Yesterday Sonar would crash just changing screen sets! I'm on Windows
10. It sure feels like a windows update messed with a very stable system here.

+1 here still on 10-16, but the insert of CA-2A causes the crash stack overrun, just like bitflipper said.  But I haven't updated Sonar...

Now for something a little weird my secondary DAW loads Rapture Pro, Z3ta+2 and CA-2A without problem my primary will load the CA-2a but crashes when I try to load Rapture Pro.
