Hi All,

I have a problem that could be solved mutiple ways. Yet I haven't gotten any of the soutions to work, So here goes:

I am recording on a laptop on Sonar 3 Producer cuz I'm out on the road a lot.  I want to record piano parts. I would be happy with audio directly into Sonar .... or ,,, better yet ,,, input a midi track so I can use the vsti synths.

I have a Yamaha the producers provide for the hotel room. It varies as to the model.

How do I load the drivers?

If I use the Steinberg to record the audio of the piano sound directly, where do I get Sonar to recognize it as the input track?

If I use the Yamaha to record midi tracks, where do I place the Yamaha driver so Sonar can recognize it for use?

Thank you.

if you install the USB drivers (https://www.steinberg.net...nberg_usb_driver.html) that should take care of the mid and you'll see it as a device available in the midi preferences. use ASIO4ALL for the audio, or the WME as the UR22 also has class compliant connection. I've used ASIO4ALL as a means of switching between my UR22 and Alesis I/O2 units.

Hi Dan,

Your UR 22 is very similar to my UR242 which I normally use with Sonar Platinum on my desktop PC.
Last week however I needed to do some field recording and opted for my laptop (Win 10) with Sonar Platinum and the UR242 which sounds similar to what you want to do. It worked flawlessly for recording both audio and MIDI.

You need to first install the drivers for your interface on your Windows laptop. These are the ones assuming you have a UR22 mkII...
https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads_hardware/downloads_ur22mk2.html

Then when you connect the interface via USB your laptop should recognise it and finish installing the device driver.

In Sonar, open preferences/Playback and Recording and set driver mode to ASIO.

On Driver settings click on the ASIO panel and set the buffer size (I used 96 samples on my laptop).

Then check on Devices to make sure that your interface is being used for the timing master.

Under MIDI devices your UR22 should appear and you can connect your keyboard MIDI out to the back of the interface MIDI in to record MIDI.

Then it's just a case of selecting the correct inputs on each track that you record for Audio and MIDI.
I was recording from the TR jack outputs of an electric piano to inputs 1 and 2 on the interface as well as the MIDI input so my recording tracks looked something like this.

MIDI Track:

Hope this helps,
ZT

Glad you found it useful Glenn.
No response from the original poster so at least my detailed response wasn't totally wasted.

I've been working a cruise ship gig so my wifi is scattered. This has been a major lift to my recording endeavours. Many thanks again to one and all ... and you especially ZT!

Power on ...
