I wouldn't buy anything from Cakewalk or Gibson at this point.

There mas be some good deals on a Gibson in 2018 if they go under. Personally I might be tempted if there are but for me the current guitars they make are seriously over priced. At least a guitar does not need the same type of support as software.

Now for me its time to focus on making music and learning Cubase.

On Friday I bought a new Gibson Les Paul Tradional Pro IV, Ice Tea, for $1,399. Of the 3 LP's that I have owned, it has by far been the highest quality so far. Deals are starting to show up.

On the other hand, I want to get everything I've ever purchased onto my PC while it's still available. Just because they say the servers will still run means nothing, they could be shut off tomorrow.
I can't express my feelings about this. I'm mad at myself for doubling down on Sonar. I don't have the funds to recreate my software collection with another company. REALLY GLAD I overhauled my Teac 3440 on the weekend. IT still works great after almost 40 years.
Gibson is dead to me.

If the servers die you can't reinstall anything post X3 due to the change they made in the authorization process.  It won't matter how many backups you have of the installers.

Glad I never bought anything after X3 . I never liked that paying for updates thing.

In a way that was the original (pre life time update) offer it just included the bonus of 12 updates.

OK. So I've been auditioning potential replacements for Sonar and I must say it's depressing. Seriously. I just want to cry. Mixbus: not even close to Sonar in usability or sophistication. Don't buy Mixbus without trying the demo first since they won't give you a refund. I found out the hard way. I own Studio One 2 Artist, looks nice, but I would have to buy a higher level of the program for it to use any of my VSTs. Reaper has potential, but I went to add BREVERB to a track and it said "BREVERB is only licensed to be used on Sonar". That will probably be the case with most of the Sonar plugs. Will I no longer be able to use Dimension, Rapture, SI-Bass, SI-Strings, Sonitus, BT, Meloetc.? Probably not. And I was just getting going with it since I retired and now have the time. This year I wrote and recorded four new songs and numerous gig recordings for the band I work with using all the great new tools in Sonar that will not be easy to replace! Folks, we are seriously F'ed! I'm considering quitting this wonderful hobby I've had for most of my life because it would be too much for me to start over. I may still look at Cubase and ProTools before deciding what to do. Cakewalk: this is the biggest disappointment I could have imagined.

First you don't have to stop using Sonar if you don't want to it will probably keep working for some time.

Second Overloud will give you a license to use Breverb outside of Sonar.

Third quite a lot of the instruments you mentioned do work outside of Sonar.

Last sorry but the only solution for Nomad is to buy the unlocked version.
