Yes, this is all sad. But sadly, its just another real life example of what matters most to many and certainly to business owners..... profitability. Customer loyalty, et al.... ONLY matters if it relates to profitability.
I jumped in the Sonar/Cakewalk game around version 6 (actually started with Home Studio). I loved the software and interface and enthusiastically upgraded and subscribed every time. To many, and certainly to me, you could sense that there was trouble in baker paradise. The lifetime subscription model/opportunity just made no business sense. Yet, like playing the lottery, I took the chance that it was legit and jumped on board, going against my inner voice that said "this is a stupid business move".
Funny thing is, just after I took the lifetime subscription plunge, I also finally made the move to go all in on Cubase. What swung my decision was midi editing and how much better it was perceived that Cubase was vs Sonar. I've literally spent the past year learning Cubase (to me, a pretty strong learning curve). Obviously, now I'm glad that I did. It hasn't always been fun, but now I'm set to move forward. I'll still fire up Sonar from time to time, especially with so many projects created there. But I've moved on.
For what its worth....I'm always in the market for a new guitar.....you better know that Gibson won't be getting any more of my cash :-)
