I guess this cements my decision to never buy a Gibson brand product again.  Thanks for taking our money and leaving us with a "lifetime" of nothing, Gibson.

Same with me. I feel competely fooled by this Company. Shame over the greedy business beople who spoil the name of such a traditional brand in moments. bah... that I have to experience this in my old days.

Last year bought the lifetime, but it seems the bosses had planned this that way, to suck all Juice out and then Crash the house. I have to Keep myself not to write acronyms.

So Sorry for the Cakewalk staff.

But never again a single Dollar for Gibson Company (This includes Epiphone), even with the strings I have to change the brand

Is it not possible to run Cakewalk as an independent company?
Are no profits made?

Best wishes to all at Cakewalk that have kept Sonar going with minimal resources.

On the other hand, I want to get everything I've ever purchased onto my PC while it's still available. Just because they say the servers will still run means nothing, they could be shut off tomorrow.
I can't express my feelings about this. I'm mad at myself for doubling down on Sonar. I don't have the funds to recreate my software collection with another company. REALLY GLAD I overhauled my Teac 3440 on the weekend. IT still works great after almost 40 years.
Gibson is dead to me.

If the servers die you can't reinstall anything post X3 due to the change they made in the authorization process.  It won't matter how many backups you have of the installers.

I have a buddy at the biggest music chain store in Canada and he sells recording software etc. I just gave him the news and he was surprised because they're still selling Sonar. The word will now be spreading spreading.

I'm sure there'll be a cracked version we can Torrent once that happens. I have a policy of not using cracked software, but that policy will certainly be lifted in this case. Screw 'em.

I bought Harrison Mixbus a few weeks ago just to try it out (and because it was only like $40). I also just purchased the Console 1 because it works with Sonar.

This will hold me over for a bit but it seems Ill be needing to move to Studio One eventually.

I am a Fender guy so I was already bumming when Gibson bought Cakewalk.

It sucks, the best DAW going, maybe...., going.

My thoughts go out to all the employees and their families. It must be hard given the time of year. Izotope are round those parts,  do you think they would fancy adopting a few orphans and perhaps an orphaned DAW? I hope at least the former if not the latter.

Good suggestion.  Having a darn good DAW in their portfolio would be a good idea, and they'd get economies of scale by acquiring the code and rights along with selected key CW technical staff.

Good thing I've recently started to get into Mixbus...
Really sad news, I've also been a Cakewalk user for a loooonnnng time.  Will miss the updates and all you great folks on the forum here.  And yeah it'll still be around for a while but eventually we'll all have to find other pastures.  I don't think Sonar will stop working though.  Does it need an online connection to run?  Don't think so, so whatever version we have running (I have Plat, latest) I guess that'll have to do.  Which isn't bad, it's not like I can't record anymore but F*** Gibson.  Man I've lost a lot of faith in that company the last few years...
Edit: Just read you can't re-install after X3 because of authorization.  Hope they make 1 last change to fix that.
