What about this forum? Obviously, the Bakers forum makes no sense, but there's nothing like this community elsewhere in the Windows DAW world. As sad as this announcement makes me, I really hope there's life after death for this forum.

Now, what about Tascam? Will my US-16x08 become another doorstop like my PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL?

You're forgetting Gearslutz. This forum as it stands may no longer exist for too long then again life goes on. Like it did for those of us who were part of the Usenet newsgroup that became this forum so many years ago. Change in venue I see coming.

Can we cakewalk users buy it? Can we bring that much money on the table?

Henry's price would be in the millions. What do you think?

I know. but we all have to pay at least $400 now. If we used that to buy out Cakewalk instead of buying a new DAW it could be possible if we get enough along!

Cakewalk needs to be sold, not closed. Closing down for any amount of time is a death sentence.

Now I know why the bakers cheaped out on doing a Mac version. They knew the writing was on the wall well over a year ago so they just used cheap-assed translation s/w instead of doing real coding. I  really would have liked to have had a true Mac version but alas was never to be.

I'm sorry, I am SO disappointed in the new Vegas.  I have nothing but trouble with it now.  Never had problems when Sony owned it.  Now it freezes if I look at it funny.

They also have Samplitude, so don’t hold your breath.

Exactly.

Please, not Magix! I had rather see CW die a somewhat honorable death than for Magix to get their hands on it. Magix will destroy it by putting out crappy, overpriced upgrades.

Well that made up my mind. Was thinking of getting a Gibson SG, but that's not happening now. I also purchased the Platinum a year ago after using cakewalk for quite a few years. This is very upsetting.

Moving to a new DAW is one thing.

But long term, am I right in assuming that we won't be able to take and use any 'built in' features - specifically the Pro-Channel modules - to another platform?

If there is no VST version available, is there any way to do this, or will they die inside Sonar when it eventually stops working on whatever version of Windows doesn't support it?

I bought fairly heavily into the Pro-Channel stuff, and I can't imagine a mix without the wonderful Concrete Limiter being in there.
