SONARtist
Dear Noel and all Bakers !

I'm truly saddened by what I'm reading here.  As a (very !) longtime and loyal user of Twelve Tone / Cakewalk products, this is disconcerting !  Disappointment pure, to say the least !!

I wish you and your team all the best for the future.

(Maybe Greg Hendershott and a consortium of dedicated people will again take back Greg's baby ... really wishful thinking I know ... who knows, miracles do happen once in a while).

Take care all and good luck.
Ted

I am thinking no. We all just SOL.

I've been a user since CW Professional 6.

I strongly suspect the subscription entitles you to all updates but if they produce no updates you're probably not entitled to get anything back since I don't think in the agreement Cakewalk guarantee to deliver any updates.

However it would be good PR if Gibson did something positive for people in a similar situation to yourself.

If Cakewalk is owned by Gibson, then Gibson has to fulfill the contract.
Gibson is authorized to give instructions to Cakewalk.
Gibson is not insolvent.
Lets wait and see. I don't believe that this is the end.

I believe that we cannot do anything about the decision to stop with Sonar. The only thing we can do is hold them to their statement: "When you pay for rolling updates, after  the 12 months you own the software."The same applies to the lifetime updates. Legally they cant take that away from us.

.
Define 'Lifetime'? Define 'Lifetime' as expressed by another person? it could get tricky, it's game over, that's just how it is.

The problem is that all few weeks and after a change in hardware and Microsoft update, SONAR needs to be re-authorized. If they turn off the server it's the end. Without having the chance to save anything to a new DAW.
Also you cannot install on a new computer.
I don't believe that they will keep the server running the next 10 years.

I only just heard. It's like a death in the family! Don't really know what to say that hasn't been said already. Such ****e news! I don't know what the chances are of Cakewalk living on and Sonar continuing to have a happy future. I guess that's all we can hope for at the moment until there is more info. I won't be switching to a new DAW just yet.

In case this forum suddenly disappears, thank you so much Cakewalk. I have used your software for many years and loved it dearly. I hope the bakers can keep baking. Gibson, screw you!
