It's like a death in the family!
No, it really isn't. Only someone who is emotionally r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d. would actually say or believe that. Reality check: A software product you've enjoyed using extensively over a long period of time will no longer be updated. Deal with it. Try googling: Grief counselors for discontinued computer applications re Opcode Vision et al
As an analogy, likening the loss of Sonar/Cakewalk is perhaps a bit too dramatic and unrealistic. Nevertheless, it is still a loss. Many here on the forum, including myself, 'love' Sonar and use it daily - and have invested many $$ into it over the years.
Many here exhibit aspects of loss - like anger (at Gibson, for trusting in whoever offered 'lifetime' updates, recently spending money) sadness (at the thought of staff losing their livelihoods at this time of the year), depression and anxiety (over thoughts of the potential of loss of countless projects, fear of future re-authorization issues) etc.
All common and normal reactions to something that has a deep value for many of us. We are familiar with, have made great music with it, know it well and have great support - if not with Cake support recently - at least with the very supportive forum members here.
Yeah, I'm sure we'll all deal with it in our own ways as time move on. It might take some of us longer who may perhaps be holding out for some future life of Sonar, or a wealthy benefactor and the like. Many of us will become proactive - and are already doing so - in looking at alternates in case of bizarre Window updates, etc. Some may be proactive at continuing Sonar in another form. So I'm sure we'll 'get over it' in time but I certainly don't believe it's supportive saying someone is emotionally '****ed' for maybe believing their loss is great.
PS. And I agree that nothing lasts forever - even lifetime updates...maybe they should have said a year - and this includes software.
