Knock on the Microsoft's door they are more fit and uptodate in PC softwares than Gibson !

genial idea!
and they were looking for developers & audio specialists short time ago.
they have the power to make sonar the "logic" from Microsoft :-)

Yes, I read that somewhere some weeks or so ago.

Incredible amount of knowhow in Cakewalk staff/devs to be hired by MS.

There have been things like dll-count causing plugins not to load on windows etc - seemingly that MS does not know audio industry that well. So they need to up their game a bit.

Sonar is too good a product to just be barried as well. It will turn up somewhere.

It's like a death in the family!

No, it really isn't. Only someone who is emotionally r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d. would actually say or believe that. Reality check: A software product you've enjoyed using extensively over a long period of time will no longer be updated. Deal with it. Try googling: Grief counselors for discontinued computer applications re Opcode Vision et al

As an analogy, likening the loss of Sonar/Cakewalk is perhaps a bit too dramatic and unrealistic. Nevertheless, it is still a loss. Many here on the forum, including myself, 'love' Sonar and use it daily - and have invested many $$ into it over the years.

Many here exhibit aspects of loss - like anger (at Gibson, for trusting in whoever offered 'lifetime' updates, recently spending money) sadness (at the thought of staff losing their livelihoods at this time of the year), depression and anxiety (over thoughts of the potential of loss of countless projects, fear of future re-authorization issues) etc.

All common and normal reactions to something that has a deep value for many of us. We are familiar with, have made great music with it, know it well and have great support - if not with Cake support recently - at least with the very supportive forum members here.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll all deal with it in our own ways as time move on. It might take some of us longer who may perhaps be holding out for some future life of Sonar, or a wealthy benefactor and the like. Many of us will become proactive - and are already doing so - in looking at alternates in case of bizarre Window updates, etc. Some may be proactive at continuing Sonar in another form. So I'm sure we'll 'get over it' in time but I certainly don't believe it's supportive saying someone is emotionally '****ed' for maybe believing their loss is great.

PS. And I agree that nothing lasts forever - even lifetime updates...maybe they should have said a year - and this includes software.

I do not find any other DAW that is able to do our job in digitizing thousends of tapes, vinyl ...
There are a lot of DAWs on the market - but not with the capacity of SONAR for our job.
I can hang myself.
It's no fun anymore to play on my Gibson guitars. It's no fun anymore to use a Stanton record player (Stanton = Gibson).

I'm curious as to what is this special feature of Sonar that other DAWs don't have?

MS is not interested in the audio world - it's too small potatoes in comparison to the home use and business use world which is what they have the market in.

Yip .. I have had a post AND a new thread removed today. Was not railing against anyone, was just asking about Cakewalk going forward re Momentum .. and is the future in Cloud and Apps. The post was link to an article about slash being made a brand ambassador for Gibson recently .. I had no comment otherwise, just quoted text in ""

I thought of Harmony Central Last night as the perfect place to take this crew of ours. So happy to see Craig say the same. I say we follow Craig ad not loose touch with each other by scattering to a dozen forums.

I'm sorry to see Cakewalk go. I used it faithfully for about 10 years until Sonar just didn't meet the needs I had working on film post production. But I still had a warm part in my heart for Sonar and Cakewalk. Perhaps someone could come along and purchase the rights and make Sonar happen again? Perhaps not. This is always the risk we run when working with software, sadly.

My view on this would be different. MS is pushing subscription cloud based software plans for a while now .. ie OFFICE 365. Surely CAKEWALK fits in with this due to its subscription payment thing of recent times?
