While I do not know the fate of SONAR or what Gibson’s plans are for Cakewalk, I can assure all the current Cakewalkers that their future is bright. ... Acoustica is committed to making Mixcraft a DAW that SONAR users will want to seriously consider adopting. Thanks,Anthony

@Anthony

Appreciate the comment, not familiar with Mixcraft, but trust you realize what you might be taking on. The bar has been raised pretty high for a certain class of users. Features, workflow and highly usable SONAR exclusive components will invite direct comparison.

I'm looking into compiling a comprehensive feature by feature comparison for possible alternatives and will make a point to consider Mixcraft.

I added this here in another thread JW:

We are spoiled with Sonar and such a high bar I think, right down to the UI. I tried MIXCRAFT for a while just to see, loading VSTs is not as intuitive to me as it is in Sonar. UI a bit "older" looking

I reckon Sonar will be hard to replace for me :( .. As I said elsehere .. I will wait and see where Sonar goes, I think it is not dead, its too good to be dead / not snapped up ... in my opinion!

And i love PROCHANNEL & the whole UI layout, Skylight interface

Sorry to hear this. Good luck, guys - I hope you'll find a solution to continue with Sonar!

Very sad to hear the news. Sonar has always been something special. One of those rare cases where a relatively large company (at least as far as the DAW world goes) has been able to consistently make the user feel special and privileged, that is why word of mouth from Sonar users has always been Cakewalks best advertising tool.
I really hope Gibson finds the logic in selling Sonar rather than just putting it into hibernation mode. (Pun intended!)

Crap. Just... Crap.

I've been ordering parts as Black Friday specials come around for a new PC build to run SPLAT on. But this has taken the wind out of my sails. I'm really depressed by this announcement. I've been using Cakewalk since the mid-90's, and none of the other DAWs feel right to me. Obviously, I'm going to put off moving to another DAW for as long as possible. And when it does finally break? I don't even want to think about it.

I would not worry about it breaking any time soon. I can still open Studio 8.5 and do a project with no problem on Windows 10.

Actually now that I say that it occurs to me that Gibson should sell Cakewalk to Microsoft!

Microsoft have an image problem they're desperately trying to shake: they don't want to be the staid manufacturer of computers your boss makes you use, they want to be the preferred option for creatives.

Mobile is pretty cool too and clearly a massive market. MS hasn't fared very well on this front despite massive investment. Anybody recall how the Nokia acquisition turned out?
...
Getting picked up by a small dedicated dev company sounds good too, but expect it will take serious $ to get Gibson's attention based on their track record.

To you new ones. I just bought Studio One. It uses VST and almost all VSTs from Cakewalk works on it.

I'm checking it out now. Adaptive Limiter seems to not work here. Any others?
