What about activation after install?
So we can save the Sonar 'install files' for future use, even after they drop the web pages,  but how will licence activation work without a website, or will on-line activation remain operative?, some other provision to activate, before Sonar is completely ghosted?

speaking of internet, our internet is under general threat of being taken over by a few media giants and other billion dollar players - time to assemble for redress of grievances so the adventure can continue - dress warm, bring friends, sandwiches and water.

Spent the last 1.5 days trying demos of various DAWs. Studio 1, Mixcraft, Pro Tools (shudder... nope. It's just really awful to me), Cubase.

Being in the business for many years now and having literally used pretty much everything on both mac and pc, I chose Cakewalk because it nailed everything: workflow, features, tools, layout, support, pro channel (I'll miss you most of all) updates, etc etc etc. I could never really wrap my head around why everyone wasn't using it.

I'll just keep using SPLAT until I can't and then figure it out. Hopefully it gets reincarnated in some fashion in the future.

Life goes on, yeah?

My concern with "everything still works" is that at some point we might be required to upgrade our OS unless we want to leave our current DAW offline and never update it again just to use Sonar in its current state.

This has been my working method all along. Combined with Macrium Reflect it's bullet proof.

My absolutely worst case would be having to build a new physical PC and if not finding a crack for Sonar Platinum 2017.01 ... installing X3 and I'd still be in good shape.
X3 is not as good as 2017.01 but tolerable.

please stop to promote other DAWs here
everything must be good, i don't believe Gibson will destroy Sonar completely - there's just no reason if they can sell it.
just remember nokia...it was dead brand and now alive again

no panic =)

But it is not possible to render an effect to a single clip. Only for the whole track. That is a problem. Because I need to render for example an equalizer with different settings to different clips. And normalisation is only possible to 0dB. That is also a problem.

Cubase allows you to apply any effect to individual clips.

This Mixcraft spam from people with next to no posts is gauche, offputting and unappreciated.

Why? Here are many people with money, looking for the next DAW. I wish to see here Steinberg, Ableton, Presonus, Tracktion, Avid, etc. people with offers. But with GOOD offers, please

That idea, also spamed in several threads, is really unappreciated.
Ok, community has collected $1-5-10M and has bought Cakewalk... And? What you are going to do with it?

Little dreaming: say Gibson asks $5M of Cakewalk (just a wild guess based on nothing).
500 SONAR users participate. Price/user: $10,000.

If deal is made, then we'd need to find new dev team (I bet Noel & other great guys already left the house), pay salaries, increase sales to make enough money... It would not be easy. :(

Yes, SergeQ, I fail to see the business behind the move.  Maybe a rebranding is under way, because the DAW itself is great.

Maybe because a lot of the other companies are 'also ran' when it comes to DAW - Protools was originally hardware too, even after PC only 'native' DAWs were coming out and hardware became antiquated (never forgave them for that), Studio One comes from a hardware company, and so on, but Sonar is among the DAW companies that were software only, DAW only, and they entered right at the time PC tools were becoming feasible for MIDI studio work.

What do we do with it?
Pay the girls and boys who made Cakewalk and Sonar to make the best DAW in the world for 2020.
They do it best.  Most of us have beer money we can channel into it.
If we buy the company we buy the IP, and the engineers continue right where they were.
Then, with the best DAW in the world in 2020, product growth will keep us going.
Welcome to the music business world.
