What about the monthly subscription?
I left 1 payment before full purchase!
If this is no longer possible, the store is closed, payments are not accepted, does this mean that after a while my version of Platinum will go into Demo mode and die in 30 days?

I checked your account.  I think you're all set and shouldn't be in demo mode.

Keith,
What are the chances of an official fix for any potential authorization problems in the future?
I'm a lifetimer and would like to be able to use 2017.01 until I can use anything anymore.
Thank you!

I'm a lifer too. The way I see it we purchased life time sonar which is listed as expiring in 2033 or something. So presumably unless they go out of business, Gibson will have to honor that by continuing to provide authorization until at least 2033 ;)

I too have been on cakewalk since the DOS days. I've purchased every update.
Sonar has some unique and useful tools, some they've written and some they licensed.
Here's hoping a group forms around Sonar just like the Ardour group. Users monthly subscriptions could keep the project going indefinitely without the overpriced, under-performing management team implemented by the investment bankers.
I think they owe it to all of us to sell the code and it's rights to a group.
Until then, I'm testing Ardour/Harrison Mixbus system. It's a little unintuitive in places but seems functional. Most of my plugins and virtual instruments work.

The Cakewalk Store IS closed. No more monthly revenue and there were never any monthly subscriptions. Only those who elected to pay monthly instead of in one go.

With other words: (I guess ...) Gibson has no money to pay Cakewalks developer team.
And I hope they will sell Cakewalk as fast as possible to a new company.

From what I've seen of Gibson and what they've done with previous acquisitions, it's more likely they will just bin the product rather than sell it on.  I hope I'm wrong.

Please Gibson, sell cakewalk Sonar to someone who will keep developing it. It is my program of choice and I will be upset if I cannot continue to use it in future..

This news makes me feel sad, angry, frustrated, and basically I still cannot believe it. How can anyone in their right mind kill software that is so top-of-the-bill, with so much more potential for further development...? I wish Noel Borthwick and everyone else at Cakewalk who put their hearts and souls into Sonar all the luck in the world. It must be heartbreaking for them too

My thoughts.

1. Cakewalk is in financial trouble so they announce lifetime licenses to make fast bucks.
2. Gibson realises they wont make any future money since the majority of users is on lifetime license.
3. Slap together a new DAW using the core code of Sonar, make some visual changes, give it a new name and voila hey you can sell new licenses. Like heeey are you a previous user of Sonar. Then we got this FANTASTIC crossgrade upgrade you just cant miss!
4. The majority of the Sonar users get Studio One licenses instead.
5. New product dies.

No, I'm no genious and know nothing about anything so I'm of course totally wrong here but...

PS
I think we as consumers should be very suspicious of all companies who bombard us with offers. A lot of companies feel desperate. Just by the epic bombardment of offers I get from Izotope I really think that company is in financial trouble.
