Mosvalve I would think Cakewalk would have to change the activation so we can still use Sonar. Didn't we buy a license for it? Didn't they say we own it? Is there not a legal aspect to this kind of situation?

My membership expired, can I still use my software?

This depends on if you officially "own" it.
  • If you paid "upfront" or through the "annual" payment option, then you are given 12 months of updates and automatically own your version of SONAR.
  • If you paid "monthly" or through the "rent-to-own" payment option, then you must complete 12 consecutive payments to obtain ownership status.

How do I check if I "own" my version of SONAR?

Simply launch SONAR and then go to the Help > About menu. If you see the words "Status: owned", then you own it!

All I want is the ability to re-install my lifetime license software without having to phone home to a server that may or may not be running when/if I need it.

Exactly my main concern also.

Just found that a load of Rapture Pro sample packs have gone from the servers - can't download them either using Command Centre or from the website (also posted in the Instruments forum).

Any help to find these/download them before everything disappears, please!

Karyn,
That is all well and good. Actually the thing to do.
But I guess long timers like myself with tons of $$$ worth of CW plugs and vsts are just out of luck.

Of course, we have to take what we can get. At least I can really clean up my plug in management   :-)

Ironic really - I decided to quit updating in March of this year having bought an annual membership, so MY Sonar Pro shows up as Owned.
I jumped ship to Reaper back in the days of Sonar 8.5.3 but still used Sonar for some MIDI authoring until Reaper upped their gm on MIDI a while back.
Bought  the updates more out of sentimentality than anything else but I am SO glad I didn't get suckered into that lifetime deal.  Cynical old git that I am, for me that offer immediately spelled it out: The carpetbaggers are getting ready to bale out and sure enough they did.
This is of course the problem you always get when a company that started out as a tiny but moderately successfull "family" business reaches the point where the kids either take over and are successful in keeping things rocking or sell out to the highest bidder.  Gibson stopped being Gibson long before Henry arrived on the scene, just as Sonar bcame an orphan when the Bakers baled.
FWIW I went through a LOT of DAW demo versions, bought Reaper and Studio One - already had Tracktion but couldn't get on with it. I have hovered on the brink of looking elsewhere once I decided Reaper was the one & am very glad I didn't. I hope Studio One is a little less cpu hungry and a lot more reliable than the version 2.6.2 that I baled on, but for my money its Reaper and recently Mixbus 4 for mixing for me.
But yeah I hope the newly-unemployed guys get themselves fixed up fast.   Shame.

I just tried and couldn't download them either. Did you manually trash them?
If not:
Whenever you download anything from center it is downloaded to a folder first, then auto install begins.
In command Center click on the setup gear on top right of CC window. You will see 2 tabs. Paths is one of them. That will tell you where the files were downloaded to.

Disregard the rant. As it turns out my problem had nothing to do with the announcement. Someone PM'd me with a fix.

Actually, all my cake plugs are working fine in Reaper so long as I keep Sonar installed.

I sure wish that I could purchase one final update.  The version I currently own has suited me fine, but if this is my last chance for a "bite at the Apple" I would like to have the latest assuming it would allow me to use the software a bit longer before it becomes incompatible with a follow upon version of Windows.
